[Movie] Movie Review: Lakatabu.

Let's have it; today we will be exploring another very well-hyped Nollywood movie. I'm a huge fan of Odunlade Adekola, Funke Akindele, and Bimbo Ademoye, and that's why you will always find me reviewing their films or ones in which they played a role.

Today, we will be exploring on Lakatabu, it is a movie by Odunlade Adekola himself and I must tell you that I enjoyed watching it, just that it didn't give me so much of a spark as I expected from Odunlade himself. We all know Odunlade is an action man, but then, in this particular movie, it feels somehow—sorry I'm starting this way, but I just expected more from him.

The movie is titled Lakatabu; it is the story of a man named Lakatabu. He happens to be a hardened criminal who has a lot of charm. I mean, he has supernatural powers, and for that, he seems to be untouchable and does anything he likes. He became someone a lot of people hold dear and even has boys working for him; they are involved in a lot of things, ranging from stealing to kidnapping to terrorizing and all forms of vices. All of this they are able to do easily and smoothly with the help of the supernatural powers he has. And you will ask if there are no police and law enforcement agents. Of course there are, but then he's become way too powerful for them to touch.

But then, he has a weakness; the power he has comes from another man, I mean, the actual person who fortified him and made him untouchable, and because Lakatabu didn't want to leave any stone unturned, he made sure to find a way to kill that man, just so he could feel free and not worry about anyone knowing his weaknesses. And like I said earlier, he's so powerful that he was feared; at one time, he (Lakatabu) kidnapped a man and his wife; the man's name was Muyiwa in the movie. After some time, the man was able to escape, leaving his wife. As he escaped, he made his way to a powerful man he knew too to help him, but while the man was trying to help, he lost his life too. That shows how powerful Lakatabu is, that even an herbalist finds it hard to bring him down.

Then, the movie took another turn when Lakatabu and the prince crossed paths; they both knew the other wasn't easy to defeat. It even got more interesting when Lakatabu knew that the wife of this prince is the daughter of the man who he killed, the man who fortified him. And unknown to Lamar Lakatabu, long before he killed the man, the man had given his daughter a spiritual thing that could help neutralize anyone, no matter how powerful the person was.

You know, I had so many expectations of that movie even before giving it a watch. Odunlade had acted in a lot of movies where he acted as a criminal and a powerful person, so I was expecting even much more from him. But then, he didn't give me as much as I expected; he tried, though. After all, nobody is perfect. I love how violent, cruel, and arrogant he is, though, which, of course, are the things that led to his downfall.

And the various actors it has in it as well made it stand out for me, the likes of Lateef Adedimeji, Femi Adebayo, and even Broda Shaggi. Each brought what they know to do best and complemented the movie. I love the vibe and the fun moments Broda Shaggi brought in too, it gave the movie an extra life. Yeah, as the skit maker that he is, he came to do just that and put some smiles on our faces, thereby helping to reduce the tension in some places.

And if you're following me so well, you will remember me saying that Odunlade had acted in a lot of movies like this in the past, and because of that, I was expecting more from him. Aside from that too, the movie felt too predictable. He's acted in a lot of movies, like being a criminal and being powerful; he could have at least made this a little different and not so predictable. Also, some of the scenes showing corpses and all were obviously artificial; they could have done better to at least make it a little real.

Not as if I didn't enjoy the movie; I did, it just wasn't what I was expecting. The makeups and sounds were good; at least Lakatabu did appear to be rough, powerful, and one to be really feared. His appearance said a lot, and I loved that.

An entertaining movie, I must say.
