[TV] Red Swan: When Luxury Hides the Deepest Wounds

After I got the recommendation from a friend, I thought Red Swan would be another regular Korean drama, and that made me skeptical to watch it until I finally decided to see it. I was thinking in my mind that it was going to be another movie that is not too mature or like some I have seen in the past, but starting it, episode one proved my thought wrong, and I got to know that there is more to the movie than the cause title it was given, which was probably the reason I was skeptical to watch it. It was not a series that relied on constant action to make it engaging. Interested, I was slowly pulled into a world where I saw how complicated love can be and how expensive trusting someone can be, and almost everyone seemed to be keeping something from each other.

One of the characters that got my attention first was Oh Wan-soo. At first she was painted as someone who has access to everything and anything anyone could pray for. They respected her, and she was so eloquent and elegant, but she got married into the family of the most powerful in this series. But as I continued watching, I got to know that all those things were just a facade because she felt so lonely and left out throughout my watching from episode one to ten. But she did something I didn't expect, which proved how bold she was; she made some decisions for herself by stopping living just to protect the image of her family. And this made her feel like a force on her own because she stopped entering the fancy designer lifestyle.

I can't leave Seo Do-yoon out because I always admired his courage as a bodyguard whose only job was to protect the female lead, but he proved himself above that. I knew what happened to him in his past, which made me realize why he was so serious to uncover the truth. And I like the way he usually interacts with Wan-soo, they got along easily, and it was not something they rushed. Just something natural that was built on respect, trusting each other, and shared pain rather than empty romance.

There were also some characters I saw in this movie too that made it more interesting, and they also deserve their credit because those types of people are what make movies interesting, like the members of the Hwain family, which made it so obvious that having a lot of money doesn't mean the family will be peaceful. Because they were all after power and status and trying to keep their secrets covered and trying to stay ahead of each other. Even some of the characters I don't like also made this drama interesting because their foolishness always made me laugh.

The scene I will say made this drama more lively for me was when Do-yoon and Wan-soo had a quiet conversation; I felt this place more because they both lowered their guard. And yes, I loved this scene where all those who were keeping secrets were revealed gradually because it exposed their trust and betrayers.

Though towards the end, some scenes become easily predictable for me, it was as if the writer was in a hurry to end it, I don't know, but I was easily guessing what would happen next, unlike when I started watching with suspense. Even with that, I still enjoyed some scenes and all the performances.

And this movie is a good example that behind all these fancy lifestyles that I see on social media and all, there is a lot going on behind the scenes, and this perfect lifestyle I see might be filled with pains inside. So, if you enjoy emotional K-drama plus a bit of suspense and drama, I'll tell you to watch it and it's already the weekend. I'll give it a strong 95/100.
