[Movie] Movie Review: The killer's game

When a hitman is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he decides to take a hit out on himself. But when the very hitmen he hired also target his ex-girlfriend, he must fend off an army of assassin colleagues.

The killer's game is a movie that relies on a classic action premise. It features Joe Flood, directed by J. J. Perry. Joe Flood in this movie is a top-tier hitman with an honorable code. He was known to take out people who truly deserved it. A severe headache and a blackout led to a misinterpreted diagnosis of a terminal disease. Instead of accepting a natural death, Joe decided he was going to end things on his own terms without burdening his girlfriend, Maize. He offered a contract on his own head with a tempting amount and gave this contract to his handler.

Shortly after the contract was active, Joe realized through a call from his doctor that his results were mixed up and he wasn't dying anytime soon. Unfortunately, the contract couldn't be cancelled. He was forced to combat killers sent internationally to collect the bounty set on him, made worse by a boss who still seeks revenge after Joe killed her dad.

The rage Joe exhibits in the movie anchors the absurdity of the plot with genuine emotional weight, and where it stumbled is the transition from romance to gory action, which could feel jarring trying to balance both.

This movie portrays the life of hitmen and how greed for bounty could make them risk it all. To some, it could be an action movie full of repetitive sequence-by-sequence structure, introducing a quirky assassin fight then moving to the next. To another, it shows a world of hitmen where codes can be broken in search for revenge or greed for bounty.

However, the killer's game doesn't break new ground in the assassin genre, but it delivers an entertaining, fast-paced ride for fans of stylized violent action movies.
