A Love Story That Slowly Faded Away

There are several activities I really enjoy doing and used to indulge in on a regular basis in the past, but the reverse is the case in recent times, as I haven't been doing them of late. It's not like I no longer love those activities or enjoy the benefits and feelings that come from indulging in them, but then several factors, both expected and unexpected, have brought about a halt to my chances of participating in these activities, and in this article today, I'd love to tell you about some of those activities I haven't indulged in for some time Andy he reasons why it's so.

You see, while growing up, one of the fun activities I loved the most and indulged in regularly was playing football. I grew up being a big fan of football, not just to watch, but also to participate in it myself by playing, and growing up, this was very consistent; there's hardly a day I won't play football throughout the week. If I'm not playing on the street with my age mate, I'll be playing in the same place with older people, and other times in my primary and secondary school playing ground and football field, respectively. I played to a point where my guardian banned me from doing so due to how addicted I've been to it.

But that didn't deter me from playing still, as I literally walked several kilometers away from home where I wouldn't be seen so I could indulge in the activities I've come to love and was even suggested to find a way of being a professional in it given my balling abilities in the midfield; however, the love I have for playing football gradually faded away when I sustained a nasty injury that broke my wrist during one of those days I used to play. After going almost a year before the wrist completely healed for me to use it well again, I just kind of abstained from playing and mostly resorted to watching alone.

And before you know it, by the time I gained admission into the university, I wasn't thrilled about playing any longer, although I still watched, but playing just wasn't my thing again, and it was in my third year in the university before I indulged in any footballing activities again, and that was during my teaching practice in 2013. I could still remember that day vividly as we, the teachers, played against the students, and I remember playing in the defense alongside my roommate @oluwadrey. After the game was when I realized I had sustained an injury that took about a month to heal.

After that very day I didn't participate in any footballing activities again until the year 2018 during my NYSC days, and it was a match hosted to send me off from service by other corps members who stayed in the hostel I stayed in; even that day I remember breathing heavily like a Christmas goat after playing for a few minutes, and since that very day I don't think I've indulged in any footballing activities that involve me playing by myself.

Talk about the reason why my love for playing football faded away. I'll say one is the injury I had, two is the need to focus on other necessities at hand, such as education and jobs, and thirdly I'll say is the absence of enough time to participate. Most times I look at my schedule and I'm like, There's no time, so I just turn down any invite that encourages me to come play, meaning I haven't played football once in the last 7 years. Even that was just 5 minutes, while the time I spent playing was 2013, which would be about 12 years ago.

I'm sure you'd have made an outstanding footballer if you had still been on the team. But I guess God had better plans for you.

Yea, God definitely had a better plan, we won't know what would have happened if I were to be a footballer.

Thanks for your kind words.

I can understand your situation and why you let it go. I am not a football fan like you. I used to play football sometimes only because I used to feel dizzy after 10-15 minutes of playing football and so I didn't pay too much attention of the game.

How you felt was how I felt the last time I played, it's no longer the same.

Football just have it way to men's heart, you might not love it but you will like it. Might not be a fan of any club bit you'd enjoying watching good matches.

The best time to enjoy football was when we were younger, we had more time for it. I used to be a defender in secondary school because I was kinda fleshy than my mates then, not because I was a very good defender😂. Now, there responsibilities that have taken the time for playing football regularly.

Last time I played was 5 years ago.
