Nowadays the digital space has become a melting pot of ideas and innovations for entrepreneurs. But behind every successful online business, there's often a story of collaboration - a partnership built on shared dreams and complementary skills.

For our #wisdomwednesday today we're diving into the unique dynamic of entrepreneurial partnerships and in particular ones that span generations and borders!

Picture this ... one half, an older man with decades of experience in all kinds of businesses, and the other, a young woman who lives and breathes the latest digital and social media trends. They come from different countries with different cultural backgrounds and perspectives. Their business is entirely online - a virtual entity where their worlds converge.

So how on earth do they make it work?

Here is some wisdom for those who find themselves in similar bizarre or unlikely partnerships...

1. Respect the Knowledge, Not Just the Age

The older partner may have a wealth of experience in managing finances, negotiating contracts, hiring & firing and probably understanding market cycles. The younger partner on the other hand is likely to be fluent in social media marketing, SEO and the dreaded ever-changing algorithms!

Instead of letting age dictate who leads, let expertise guide the way. It helps when the person that actually knows what they are doing leads the fluffing way forward.

But acknowledge and value the unique skills each person brings to the table. It is similar to how we all like to be told thank you and appreciated. The older partner's sagacity can provide a stable foundation whilst the younger partner's agility keeps the business relevant in today's ever changing market.

2. Communication is Key

As with anything in life, communication is key, this is even more important with cultural and generational differences. What might be a direct, no-nonsense statement to one person could be perceived as rude or dismissive by another. So make sure you have plenty of check ins, both formal and informal.

Be clear with communication, lose the ambiguity and above all don’t be afraid to ask for clarification.

A simple "What did you mean by that?" can prevent a whole heap of misunderstandings not to mention a nose put out of joint!

3. Define Roles and Responsibilities Clearly

With an online business it is so easy to step on each other's toes because the lines between work and personal life can blur together!

So to counter this, you need to establish clear roles and responsibilities right from the start. This includes decision-making authority, who handles customer service etc?

Having a clear framework reduces conflict and ensures that tasks are completed efficiently.

Remember it is all about working smarter not harder!

4. Embrace Your Differences

Your different backgrounds are your greatest strength, so embrace them!

Instead of seeing your differences as obstacles, view them as different lenses through which you can analyze a problem.

Use your diverse backgrounds to your advantage.
Use them to create a business that is both timeless in its values and cutting-edge in its execution.

5. Find that Shared Vision

Despite your differences in background and approach, the one thing that must unite you is a shared vision for the business.

This isn't just about making a profit...

It's about your why?

it's about what you want to build and why.

Regularly revisit your mission statement and long-term goals.

Remind yourselves of the common ground that brought you together in the first place.

When challenges arise, this shared vision will be the glue that holds you together.

Building a business with someone is a journey of growth. Not only for the company but also for the individuals involved.

When done right, a partnership that seems unlikely on the surface can become an unstoppable force.

True wisdom knows no age or nationality.
