RE: Sam’s Hangout #101 - “DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS & ACCOUNTABILITY”

(edited)

One thing I will like to say first, is the fact that Internet never forgets. We should always keep that in mind. So, we should be careful with whatever we are going to do, say, post, or tweet.

If a post carries offensive or harmful words then we should know it will hit/hurt a lot of people, even if it is made in the past. Take Simi's old tweets for example, what if the parent of one of the boys gets to see that tweet now, even if they (the parent) are not sure it was their child, the fact that their kid was once in Simi's mum daycare can make them think something else, thereby bringing some level of pain to them at a time like this. Have we even thought about it the tweets had been made by a guy. What are we going to say? a guy making use of such odd words on little kids.

Now, I actually do not believe that some old post of someone should be used to judge who they are today, and that is if the person has changed. We all grow, and as we grow, we learn. Most of this old tweets and post are done and said our of ignorance, immaturity and the environment we find ourselves.

However, accountability must come first. If an old post that happens to be offensive resurfaces online, then the person involved should acknowledge it and apologize, while making it known that they've changed and are no longer that same person.

I think I've done enough justice to this week's topic.
A big thanks to the organizers.

Well spoken bro 🤏... The internet indeed never forgets. Emphasis on never.

The current Simi's old tweet causing hullabaloo all around is a great example on this topic for discussion I must say. I won't blame the people who will judge based on that especially if they had been directly involved with that.
But again, change is one thing that we all know is constant. People do change, which is why there are lots of instances of a sinner becoming a born again and all that.
For that, judging based on the past isn't something I would agree with either.

Yea, you gerrit. Change is constant.
Still, she should be held accountable to some extent based on those tweets. We won't allow her slip through 😂😂😂
