Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is from Hive Student Connect, which says:The School Hunger Experience. So, let's dive in.
Honestly, just like the prompt said, school can be fun, and other times it can be the other way around. You will wake up early in the morning to meet up with a 7:00 a.m. class just because you don't want the lecturer in charge of the course to reach the class before you. You know that once the lecturer gets to class before you, you'll have to stand outside and receive the lecture, or you'll be rushing to class because of attendance.
As students, we have all experienced that kind of hunger that turns your head and makes you unable to concentrate on what you're doing, or makes you feel as if the world is about to come to an end. Omo, hunger is not a good thing, and I don't wish it even on my enemies.
So, this week's prompt asked us to talk about The School Hunger Experience, and I would love to share mine. Omo, I cannot forget that day. It will always remain in my memory, and I will even tell my children about it.
That day was during my 100-level second semester. Just like I always say, both my brother and I are schooling in the same school and living in the same compound but in different rooms. My brother was in 200 level then. We had no foodstuffs, no gas, and no money because my brother's clients refused to pay him for the work he did for them. Although we had already told our sisters that we didn't have enough, it wasn't yet time for them to send us money for foodstuffs and transport.
Both my brother and I just sat there looking at each other. We managed to drink the little garri we had left, but the problem was how to survive the next day. I went to school, but as the lecturers were teaching, nothing was entering my head. My stomach was grumbling. My friends asked me what was wrong, but I didn't tell them anything. I lied and said I was fine. I watched them buying food, and they even asked if I wanted to eat. Instead of saying yes, I said I was okay.
I watched people buying food. Omo, the smell of the food and snacks only made the hunger worse. To sleep, I was even seeing masquerades pursuing me to go and eat. πππ I couldn't concentrate in ΓΎhe class. Our lectures ended around 3 p.m., and I still don't know how I survived because the hunger was too much.
When I got home, I thought my brother's clients would have paid him so that we could finally have something to eat. Instead, I met my brother lying down because of hunger. I got to my room and started crying because it meant I would sleep without eating anything since morning.

That night, I drank so much water that it gave me stomach pain. I lay on my bed and started counting the ceiling. πππ I couldn't even watch a movie. It was after 11 p.m. that one of my brother's clients finally sent the money. Both of us had to go out to buy bread and a bottle of mineral at the bus stop because our street had already become quiet and no shops were open by that time. We were scared to go out, but when you're talking about hunger, it's as if your ears become blocked and your eyes turn red. πππ
After buying the bread and mineral, both of us sat in front of his room and rushed the food as if we had just been released from prison. πππ
The next day, we went to the market to buy foodstuffs. Back then, things were not as expensive as they are now. We also refilled our gas. Since that experience, whenever we receive money, we always keep some for the rainy day because we never want to experience something like that again.
That is one experience I never want to go through again because only my brother and I truly know the effect that hunger had on us, how weak it made our bodies, and how much it affected us.
In conclusion, hunger is not a good thing, and I don't wish it on anyone, not even my enemies. I'm also sure there are many students going through similar experiences because that's just student life sometimes. There may be no foodstuffs, or even if there are foodstuffs, there may be no gas or charcoal to cook with, no money, or simply nothing at all.
But I'm grateful to God for always coming through for us because whenever such a situation is about to happen, He always makes a way and ensures that we don't go hungry.
This is my entry for the Hive Student Connect Week 53 New Prompt.
