Seeing this topic, I had to go back memory lane and also think about the few friends I have, and all I can say and see is that most of the friends I have now are people I met later in life. Somewhere around my secondary school days, higher education, and after.

That is just life, not as if I didn't have friends while growing up, but then a lot of things happened, and we're no more. Not as if we fought or had issues; nah, it's just distance, relocations, and all of that, and everyone has gone their own different ways.
Even still, there are a couple of friends I still remember and the memories we shared. One of such people is Praise.
I and Praise were very close when we were still children. We did almost everything together. She's always coming to our place, and I'm always going to their place too. We would eat together, play together, go to school together, return home together, and so on.
And our houses were story buildings. There was a two-story building, and ours was a two-story building too; both houses face each other, with just a normal untarred street or road separating us. I'm sure you can picture it. That's what our houses looked like. I remember how we would stand on our balconies and call out to each other. We're not even concerned about the little distance or road separating us. We would stand there shouting, communicating and all. You know, as children, we don't bother.

Later, life happened, and they relocated. Several years later, we met again. This time in secondary school and this time she was now a class ahead of me. The very first day I saw her in school, I couldn't believe my eyes. She had that same eye and all, but she's now a very tall girl with huge stature, unlike me, who's refused to grow big. 😃
Well, I greeted her and all, but I noticed she wasn't returning the energy. Instill tried to bring something up after that, but she's not reciprocating it at all. Well, I just stopped. It will do me no good putting in the effort and stressing myself when the other person is obviously not interested in the friendship.
And I can't help but wonder what happened to that girl I'd play with back then, that girl who wouldn't stop calling my name from their balcony even after she was being scolded by her mom.

Childhood friendships feel like they will last forever because we never imagined a future where we stop talking. Then life happens. People move, grow, change, and take different paths. Suddenly, someone who once knew every little thing about you becomes someone you only remember when an old picture or memories pops up.
You gerrit 💯
That's just life. Just like the Yoruba proverb that says, 20 kids cannot continue to play together for 20 years.
