If I said I never knew the name of my best teacher would you believe me? I wasn’t very close to him, in fact I only called him what we were instructed to call our teachers in secondary school then “master”. To date I still get angry anytime I remember my school forced me to call another human being master, but he was an exception because he was truly worthy of the title master. But then again, good things do not last forever, I was only able to enjoy him for a term before he left our school.

From the very first day he came to class, he showed he was different, he showed he was bigger than where he was but would not mind coming to our level to impact us. He taught me geography, but everything he taught me still stays with me to date. After he taught us for a term, there was nothing in geography that I did not know, in one term he accomplished what every teacher in my school could not accomplish. Even the students people called dull suddenly became good at something because of a good teacher.
He did not just teach me geography, he taught me what it meant to be a good teacher, what it meant to really care for your student, and that at the end of the day, good teachers make good students, and bad teachers make dull students. He taught me it is okay to be bad at something, and all one needed to do was practice until I am good at it and that was exactly how we learned geography. The boring topics became very interesting with him teaching it. I still remember his face, and his voice. He wasn’t strict, but we all respected him because we felt loved by him. Too bad our school was too small for his kind of person.
