One of the few things I really wanted to learn in school was computer programming. I was delighted when I saw it among the courses in my course outline. Unfortunately I never got to learn it in school. I was supposed to start my programming journey with C++ but then the lecturer taking the course never came to class. Okay he came at most three times in the first semester, the first was to introduce the course to us and tell us his text book was 5,000 naira. I remember he also told us to prepare for his test the next month and without buying his textbook we wouldn’t be able to write his test.

Instead of us learning about computer programming, we were busy looking for money to buy his course text book. The day of the test came and we had not even read the text book because the lecturer had not given us textbooks, not even after paying for it. We ended up doing an openbook test on his second visit and even with that no one scored more than 5 in a test that was over 30. His last visit was during the exams, we all went hopelessly to write an exam we knew nothing about and none of us failed, in fact the lowest score from that course was a B and it was a 4 credit unit course in just level 1.
This was my life with computer programming all through my school year, and when I realized it wasn’t going to change in my third year, I decided to take it upon myself to learn computer programming on my own. It wasn’t easy, I paid money for someone to teach me but wasn’t really taught, and then I had to pay for online course. Everything I had to pass through to be a computer programmer taught me that in life I need to fight for what I want if I really want it that much because sometimes, life ain’t fair.
