Title: The Weight We Carry While Learning
We carry different weights while learning, like the fear of not failing and the like, but let's just take the workload plus education for now.
We all know education is a beautiful thing, but there are times it gets heavy and the weight tells on us. And even before we get enrolled, we picture the academic setting differently; when those who are in talk about it, we feel, "And you're there too." We want to see for ourselves too, and when we finally get in, the reality hits us. Our expectations are to read, go to class, rest, eat, and such, but the reality we are seeing now is pressure, assignments, deadlines, projects, spending, and all, while we still have our personal lives to deal with too.
Many of us even thought we had it all planned out before being admitted; we planned to read ahead, go for tutorials, and all. But along the line, life came at us, and it wasn't what we envisioned. We got tired, and we procrastinated.
We can't really say workload is the enemy of education; the way it is being managed or handled is what matters. Because when it gets too overwhelming and all, we begin to read and do things just so to pass and go and are not really interested in studying to know and understand. Schoolwork shouldn't be what we are scared of but what will help us grow.
When I just got admission into the higher institution, I was so serious with everything; let me say I was acting the good boy, doing this and that, attending every lecture, and doing everything that's been asked of us. I had to just tell myself that the workload is all part of education, and I should keep carrying it all without showing the toll it's having on me. But as time went on, I couldn't keep it in anymore; it was so obvious I was getting drained. The workload is too much. I remember a particular day I sat on my bed with a book in front of me. I wanted to read, but I was too tired to even read a sentence in the note. Not only that, but I wanted to push myself as I always did, but it wasn't working. That day, I realized that I should know when to pause, when to take a deep breath, and when to rest, because learning is a journey and not a race.
Workload is indeed part of learning/education, but learning/education shouldn't take away that little strength, joy, and happiness we are keeping inside of us.
So, let's hear from you too. What's your take on it?
