Handling Creative Blocks

Sometimes we may be short of ideas, oftentimes because our brain has overworked and we have stressed ourselves out too much to think deeply. It happens often with students, and we find ourselves stuck in a place not knowing from where to continue. Trying to force our way through these blocks may result in less creativity and stress. However, people have learned to manage creative blocks differently, each one peculiar to an individual, and help them refresh themselves, regaining energy and ideas to continue. I'll be sharing ways I handle creative block and a few personal experiences when I was still in school.

The few things I do to manage creative blocks are; I jolt down important points during a project which I can go back to anytime I'm out of ideas, I take a walk and connect with nature, and finally, I sleep. We tend to forget ideas sometimes and that's the magic behind jolting ideas, beautiful ideas come when we least expect it and the only way to remember it is when it's recorded on a piece of paper. Just like our professional slogan would say "memory forget, record remembers". So I jolt them down to serve when the head goes blocked.

Taking a walk and connecting with nature helps one stay calm. Remember what often causes creative blocks is stress , lack of inspiration, fear etc. When one takes a walk, it allows one's nerves to relax, allowing the brain to function to its maximum once again. Sometimes sleep does the magic. One wakes up feeling refreshed to continue again. Since forcing your way through the creative block would only lead to poor presentation, a nap helps me rejuvenate with fresh ideas to begin with.

I've experienced creative blocks a lot of times while I was in school. Sometimes during writing assignments, during projects or writing a presentation, and sometimes generally -no desire to write or do anything. The best thing I do in this scenario is to abandon it for that moment and either take a walk or sleep. I do this repeatedly and it works for me so far. All I need to do is to manage the stress, regain inspiration, and let go of fear and the few ways I handle them have been effective.
