Friendship In School

Patrick was my special friend in school. We became more than just friends but more like brothers and shared virtually everything we had. Most of my school memories were shared with him, both funny, happy times and sad times. Till date, I never regretted having him as a friend and brother even though our personalities were quite different. We had met from the very day we sat for our entrance exams. Just after the result was out and pasted on the board for everyone to see, his name was next to mine. While I was an introvert, Patrick was the complete opposite of me, he was about making friends and consoling people whom names weren't on the board, until he came to me and started the book talk and I told him I wasn't scared of any interview as long as it was done outside politics-I had zero interest in politics, someone even had to tell me the name of our governor and vice president because they were one of the things that never concerned me. I remember I asked him the names more than four times before going in for the interview.

We both got admitted and we shared the good news on the phone because we had exchanged numbers after the interview. The friendship that started from the day of the interview continued even at home and we became roommates in school. Our personalities were different, yet we blended so well. Patrick loves to share his knowledge with people, I prefer my space until one asks that I help. Patrick rarely stays indoors, indoors was my muse. Patrick loves to study, I love sleep, I only read when I need to. I am soft and fragile, Patrick is hard and looks more manly. Etc. but then we learned from each other, Patrick learned some cooking recipes from me and I learned hard work and endurance from him. I also learned sacrifice from him.

We both understood division of labour and standing for one another. We talked about everything. We both became leaders in our various fellowship. I still remember the night he fell in love with a student, I was the one he shared the news with and his first kiss too, my roommate couldn't sleep that night. It was beautiful watching him pant in excitement and how he seemed to capture every moment of it. But then, even his relationship wasn't a barrier to the friendship we both shared and till date we are still in touch and his parents call sometimes to check on me.
