Flowers And Soft Rain

IMG_6951.jpeg

It didn’t rain yesterday. I wish it had. I wish it had rained softly so I could remember that soft rain still exists. It didn’t rain yesterday, nor did it last week nor two weeks ago. Honestly, I don’t remember the last time it rained. It’s been a long time since I last noticed flowers. If asked, I would swear that there are no flowers in this city. There probably are lots of flowers, maybe not the beautiful kinds, but I’ve not seen them. Not even the tiniest of them all. Days have turned into weeks, and weeks into two solid months. About two months have passed, but my attention has been somewhere between the rocky and slightly dangerous part of life. I love soft rain and flowers. However, somewhere along the way, these small, gentle and beautiful things are becoming invincible.

I have always loved soft rain. Not the rough ones that come with unexpected lightning and thunders. Those ones are rude and saucy. I love the ones that dampen the soil, little by little. You can almost see them drop on the ground almost one after the other. It feels like a snail or a tortoise that is shy about bringing its head out of its shell, so it comes out little by little when no one is looking. Sometimes, soft rain comes with a little force. No noise. No thunder and lightning. Just a bit of force. You know, the kind you would want to walk in just to get drenched, so you would witness nostalgic moments and forget life’s worries, just for a while.

Weirdly, on some days I prefer the “other type of rain.” On these days, I just want to hear everything roar. So, I cuddle up in my bed and listen. I listen to the sound of the rain. I listen and think.

Flowers. Flowers are beautiful and detailed. My favourite flower is the sunflower. Arguably, it isn’t the most beautiful flower in the entire world, but in my world, it fills a big space. It is simple, beautiful and well crafted. I enjoy plucking its petals one after the other and then leaving just two, one on the right far end and one on the left.

Again, I love soft rain and flowers. It’s been a while since I experienced the feelings I get when I see these things. It hasn’t rained because it’s not currently the rainy season. As for the flowers, I have concluded that I haven’t noticed them because I have been too busy “doing” life. I don’t know if I’m starting to lose touch with the things I love. But one thing I’m certain of is that the journey is still far and I hope it doesn’t get worse. I really do.

Finally, I took a long break from Hive.it. I needed it. It felt good because I got to channel the time and energy to another thing. Also, I rested well which is actually the major stuff I needed. I’m glad I finally got to write today. It felt therapeutic writing this post.

Thanks for reading.

I like moderate rain that soaks and nourishes plants but doesn't flood or destroy crops. I love walking and running in the rain; it makes me feel free.
