My Thoughts on Birthdays

Birthdays are yearly celebrations that require one to be thankful for clocking another year. It’s a time when you reflect on your life thus far and embrace your new age against all odds.

When it comes to birthday celebrations we have two categories of people, and there are the Excited ones and the Not-so-excited ones, I think I belong to the category of the Not-so-excited ones.

When I say Not-so-excited I do not mean these category of people are grumpy on their birthdays or would rather choose to be dead than get excited on their birthdays or celebrate it, no, by Not-so-excited, I mean people who either feel indifferent about their birthdays or get anxious before and during their birthdays.

While birthdays are often considered as a time to celebrate, be happy, and do crazy things, not everyone shares in this belief system or tradition. Sadly a lot of people choose not to celebrate their birthdays and that’s perfectly fine as it doesn’t change a thing as their reasons are valid to them and must be respected as well.

I love my birthdays no doubt and I am always proud of every new year I clock but sadly I do not enjoy celebrating my birthdays.

I know it’s supposed to be my day. A day when I get the whole princess treatment from everyone but I would rather people not know it was my birthday than celebrate it.
I don’t really like to be in the spotlight and that’s the one thing my birthday does to me, it puts me in the spotlight where I get attention from so many people and this can be exhausting sometimes.

It’s bad enough that my phone would have to continue buzzing nonstop all day but worse that I have to take all these calls and return these text messages whilst being cheerful and sweet, to me this is so much work already. Then graduating to throwing a party? Lol, that’s way too much strain on my social battery and I’ll pass on this any day, any time, forgive me😃

I love my birthday no doubt but you’d never see me going all out for it.

I enjoy celebrating people’s birthdays especially when I genuinely like them. I love to plan surprises for people on their birthdays and get to see their priceless reactions heck I love to pull up at their birthdays like the superstar that I am😂😂
Making people feel special is my forte so doing it on their birthdays is just a walk in the park for me.

When I do all these I am genuinely happy as nothing makes me happier than seeing my friends and loved ones smile till their faces hurt. This is just another level of excitement and yes my social battery is always charged because I’m not the one smiling for the camera and cutting the cake, I'm part of the audience hehehehehe.

As much as I do not enjoy celebrating my birthdays I still try to do sweet and nice things for myself every year and with that alone I am content😃
