Hello everyone, today's thoughtful daily post prompt says - "Can you care about someone without being close to them?"
Well, to do justice to my #thoughtfuldaily, let's begin with the definition of the word 'care' which means - to mind or be concerned about something; to provide tending, maintenance, or medical treatment for a person, animal, or object.
From the definition above, we can see that to care for someone requires one to tend, maintain or provide medical treatment and all these actions require closeness to the person or thing or object as the case may be. Thus, without being close to the person , thing or object caring for them may not be feasible. For instance, you cannot care for a sick person from far away. Same thing goes for caring for plants or any other object.
There is a saying that "you cannot shave one's hair in his absence". Thus, a person needs to be close to the person one intend to care about. It cannot be done remotely. An overt act is required to demonstrate that a person actually cares for another. You cannot also care about your work from afar. You need to be close to tend and maintain the work as it is.
However, a person can mind or be concerned about something from afar or feel empathy for another even when the person is not close to them. One can also show concern for another person who is passing through some difficult moments. This could be by way of prayers or sending money or other material things.
In all, whichever way you look at it, caring about someone requires closeness not necessarily affinity with that person.
This is my entry for the week's PROMPT

I don't fully agree that we need to be close to someone to care about them. Sometimes we may not talk to a person for months but we still think about them. I think that can be a kind of care.
Thanks friend @jenifers for your kind words. However, come to think of it, when you think of someone without any overt acts, does that translate to caring for the person. No act of love or affection expressed physically do not, to me amount to caring.
