The boxing game genre has been practically dormant for over 13 years since Fight Night Champion hit our consoles back in 2011. Boxing fans have been waiting for a new experience that captures the excitement and realism of the sport, as the few offerings that have arrived have been lacking in this regard. Today, we're going to talk about Undisputed. And make no mistake, it's not just another fighting game, as the title strives to offer an authentic experience for boxing fans. But will it succeed? Stay until the end to find out.

In Undisputed, we'll have several styles of play, starting with the typical quick combat that we can play locally, either against the computer or with a friend. Obviously, we'll also have online combat, with a quick mode, a ranked mode, and we can even create a room to play with our own friends—again, if we have one. But I must add that I don't know if it's because I had an early version of the full game or some glitch, since I haven't been able to try these modes due to the long queues where I couldn't find a match at any point. So, I can't say much about the online aspect.

My Career mode, where we create our own character and try to reach the top of this legendary sport. I must admit I was quite surprised by the character creator, as it gave us a lot of freedom in this section to do some truly crazy things. Although, as you can see, I kept it simple.

In my career, we'll find that we have no storyline or anything like that. It's just fight after fight, while simultaneously managing everything that surrounds a fighter: their trainer, their manager, their doctor, their contracts, their gym, their training style, whether we want to do more or less campaigning, their breaks, whether we want to focus on weight loss or stat gains, who we fight... And many of the opponents will be exactly the same, with the same strategies. So don't be surprised if this mode ends up feeling repetitive.

Although not all that glitters is gold, there are times when animations fail or collisions aren't quite right. I must also add that, as a fan of this style of game, it's quite common. But I still have to mention it. And that doesn't detract from the great work the developers have done.

Moving on to the visuals, Undisputed is a spectacle. The developers have used scanning technology to capture the boxers with an incredible level of detail. The character models are very realistic, with detailed textures ranging from muscles to veins and the sweat that accumulates after several rounds. I also don't want to forget their wounds and cuts, even the swelling from taking so many blows in a specific area. In addition, the game features a wide variety of rings and stages, each with its own lighting and atmosphere.

Is Undisputed worth it?

Well, for me, yes, without a doubt. Undisputed is much more than just a return to boxing games: it's a solid offering that combines realism, strategy, and great attention to detail. Of course, it still has some fine-tuning to do before release, but the potential is already there. If you're a boxing fan or just enjoy fighting games that require more than just button mashing, Undisputed definitely deserves to be on your radar. And who knows, maybe this is the title that finally restores boxing to its rightful place.
