How The old folks of this generation would understand Blockchain and take advantage

I think about my grandparents as I sit to write on the Hive blockchain and on Silver BLOGGERS because old folks were there before internet and Blockchain.

They've basically lived a good part of their lives without advanced computers, internet and Blockchain technology.

They have seen a lot from TV to internet coming into existence in their lifetime. This is because when it comes to blockchain I wonder if they could truly comprehend it.

This is because my grandparents are not exactly tech-savvy as most people's grandparents aren't.

They still prefer writing hand letters to sending emails and have never owned a smartphone. In this regard, the idea that I can explain blockchain to them seems like an uphill task.

However, there have been occasions when they amazed me by showing their readiness to learn.

Therefore, I decide to go and see them so that we can talk about the issue of blockchain.

Like expected, they want to know more but are skeptical about it all. When I say words such as “decentralization” and “cryptocurrency,” my retired accountant grandfather looks at me with his puzzled frown, raising his bushy eyebrows up in confusion.

I am eager to make them understand. For example, I begin with the analogical description of blockchain as a digital ledger which my grandparent identify with when they say that he balance the books.

So, I tell him about blockchain and how it records transactions securely and transparently just like in his ledger when he used to note down financial transactions.

However, practicality would not let go; so my grandmother asks about the security aspect of it.

Thus, I assure her that blockchain technology uses encryption and consensus systems that ensure immutability or unchangeableness as well as verifiability through various parties’ agreement.

As we talk, I see their curiosity piqued. Consequently my grandfather starts relating blockchain to dependability of traditional banks while grandmother agrees by nodding her head.

But when I begin talking about other things that blockchain can be used for aside from cryptocurrencies, they only then appreciate it.

It is the blockchain in supply chain management that comes to mind where I explain how blockchain allows for tracking of goods’ movement from producers to consumers and authenticity and quality check points.

He is so much thrilled as he realizes what this would mean for many of his former colleagues who are still employed by these companies. He starts to imagine how it could reduce inefficiencies and therefore save time and money.

Looking into the future, my grandmother once again shows her forward thinking nature by asking how blockchain could improve patient records and medical research.

In my explanation I elaborate on how such data can be stored securely using blockchains which provide patients with more control over their health information and offer researchers big datasets that they can analyze.

In my conversations, I am filled with pride for my grandparents. They took a while to catch on but now they have embraced the blockchain concept and are completely convinced that it could totally change many aspects of our life.

Before I go, he needs me to set up a digital wallet for him so that he can buy some cryptocurrencies. It is a small step, but it shows how even senior citizens from this generation can switch and take advantage of new technologies when the opportunity arises.

While driving back home, I couldn’t stop smiling at the idea of my grandparents becoming blockchain enthusiasts. No one knows what tomorrow will bring, but one thing is certain, they will be ready for it block by block.
