My Creative Process Is Messy

Everyone on hive is a content creator and if you weren't before, you basically become one. There are different stages in my creative process and it's not particularly orderly or routine.

Getting Content Ideas

Like @belemo would say, there is always content, and I do agree. I never run out of content ideas because it seems to be everywhere I look. I consume a lot on the internet, watch a lot of TV, read articles and books, pay attention to conversations and all that. I dream and even eat content, I just need to take pictures before it ends up in my stomach.

My problem, however, is not documenting ideas immediately they come. I know, 'get a notepad already!' But I do have notepads, I just don't make use of them frequently. I've grown accustomed to my own lie of not forgetting an idea but I always forget once it's past 24 hours. Some days are good and I note or work on my ideas immediately.

Type of Content

The type of content really determines the ease at which I write. For some, I could be done in a matter of minutes and publish immediately. There are others that take a long time and need more revisions. A STEM post for example would take me a long time because I need to make proper research so as not to spew misinformation. A movie review, however, takes a shorter time because it's an entirely opined piece.

I like the off-the-top-of-the-head type of writing mostly because it's obviously faster and I don't have to overthink or procrastinate. My template posts fall in this category also. These are posts like food recipes, movie reviews, book reviews and even contest entries. I already created a pattern of these posts so I immediately know what direction I'm headed when I begin writing.

The hardest type of content to make is video content because of how long it takes. After battling with so many takes, I have to compress and edit the video which is enough time to write at least two solid posts.

The Drawbacks

Normal people draft out their work, write, and then edit. But what do I do? I edit on the go 😩 I can't help it. It's a bad habit that wastes my time a lot but I always do it and find it hard to break from it. When I write my eyes keep reverting to the opening lines and I read everything from the top over and over. I am my own distraction.

Another distraction is thinking of a million other things I should be doing before writing. Based on my daily routine, I should be writing and engaging on hive by noon time after I must have been done with my chores. I'm either too tired to keep up or I leave my draft and go back to hanging chores.

Timing

Like I said, I write at noon and it's really quiet then. Most times, I make a draft and then work on it just before bedtime which is also a quiet time to think and work. Even though it's not really good for my health, I prefer staying up late to write.

Writing Frequency

I write everyday but I don't post every single day. Some posts don't make it out of the drafts and end up deleted because they either don't meet up to my standard or I feel they're just unnecessary rant.

Enjoying the Process

It's not the best but I enjoy my creative process and that's very important to me. I want to always enjoy my writing and have fun with it because that's my only assurance that people would enjoy it too. Consistency is great but I'm not going to force a shitpost when I don't really feel like writing. I'm impressed by everyone who puts out meaningful content here daily and I draw inspiration from them too.

My goal is to keep to a hive schedule just like my amazing husband (he's such a busy bee) and develop order. I also want to improve on my writing skills and write on the topics that prove the hardest for me. One thing I know that stands out here is originality and I never want to lose that in my creative process.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for engaging.

Hemingway also edited as he wrote and threw away more writing than he kept. Trust your process. Not all writers are the same!

Just reading about his writing style now. So it appears I haven't been doing it wrong then? It's just another way to get to the heart of my story quicker.

I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong." There is just what works better for you personally. That is how I see it.

Great post!
It's always really interesting to read about other people's creative process. It reminds me to work on my own ^^

Right now I don't have a very structured day and I basically write when I feel like it and when I have the time and quiet to concentrate. But I'm looking forward to a more organized day, when I'm staying in one place for a while.

I'd be interested to know if Hive is your main job?

Hive is my main job and I'm looking to have more structured days just like you. I find it hard to stick to 'office hours' and get distracted by other stuff around the house.

0E-8 BEE

That's what I find most difficult. It's awesome to work from home and choose your own working hours, but it's so hard sometimes to not get distracted by the things that need to be done around the house. Really needs discipline!
All the best <3

I think the creative process is the main reason we write about things we are passionate about.

So keep up the work and keep up the great pieces of work :)

I like the fact that you want to improve on your writing skills. We all learn everyday and no one is perfect. The little knowledge we have, we also learn to share with others

Great work 👍

write every day but I don't post every single day. Some posts don't make it out of the drafts and end up deleted because they either don't meet up

The biggest problem I am having right now is this, and it is so exhausting sometimes.

It is but quality over quantity

Yeah that is true.

Lol it's nice to see you admit about lying to yourself when you say you won't forget, it happens to me all the time.

Working on topics that prove the hardest for you is a good way to improve your writing skills. Great post!

What has helped me most is the fact that everyday seems dramatic for me, hence it comes easy.

That's awesome
