Are you ready for some football?

Two days. Just two more days before the college football season is upon us. It's honestly a bit hard to believe. I feel like just the other day we were looking forward to the Summer Olympic games and now boom football!

Trust me, I am not complaining, but this is just another stark reminder of how quickly time passes. You watch, before we know it, it will be college bowl season and then we will have to wait another eight long months before it comes back.

I'm really curious to see how my Michigan State Spartans are going to do this year. In case you hadn't heard, the Big 10 conference has expanded. Although it hasn't been ten universities in a long time, there are now a ridiculous eighteen teams in the Big 10.

So far the preseason rankings for Michigan State aren't looking so good. Not only are they outside of the top 25 in the national rankings, they are also ranked 17th out of 18 teams in the Big 10. That's downright painful right there. Add to that the fact that Michigan is ranked #2 in the Big 10 and #9 nationally, and it's a big kick in the nuts.

Their schedule isn't going to be very easy either. They start off this Friday against Florida Atlantic. While usually games like this are considered cupcake games, I don't think that is going to be the case with this one. The new coach at Michigan State will just be getting his legs underneath him. He is basically starting over with a whole new team.

Michigan also has a new coach, but they still have a handful of players who played on the National Championship team, so there's that.

After Florida Atlantic, their next game is against Maryland before they roll into a couple more cupcake games. Finally, on September 28th, they start regular season play against Ohio State who is ranked second in the nation. They follow that up the next week with Oregon who is currently ranked 3rd in the nation.

The get a bye week to lick their wounds and then they roll into Iowa (25 ranked) and follow up the next week with Michigan. By week 10 they finally get a bit of relief with a home game against Indiana, then on the road at Illinois before finishing the season with Purdue and Rutgers.

Those last four games are all against teams that are currently in the bottom 14 of the Big 10. We all know that can change though.

Trust me, I really hope things go differently. I'm kind of excited about this new coach and what he might bring to the team this year. I'd love nothing more than for the Spartans to surprise everyone and actually be contenders for the conference championship.

It's going to be a long hard road though. Friday should give us a pretty good indication of what it is going to look like.
