Are you kidding me!!?

Holy crap! To say I am reeling after the events of this past weekend would be a bit of an understatement. There's not beating around the bush, let's just get the big news out of the way right now.

In case you missed it, the #1 team in the nation got stunned by an unranked team on Saturday. You read that right, the Vanderbilt Commodores took down Alabama 40 to 35 in what has to be the biggest upset of the weekend. That drops Bama down to #7 in the top 25.

I've gotta be honest, that upset wasn't even on my radar. I went back and looked at the odds for that game and if you had put a $10 bet down on Vanderbilt to win, it would have netted you a cool $100. At least if I am reading the odds right.

As you can see from my photo above, there was also a bit of baseball on this weekend, but I am going to talk about that in another post. For now, let's get back to the college football scores.

Syracuse took down UNLV in overtime on Friday night. This pushed UNLV down out of the top 25 rankings. Sadly, the Oregon vs. Michigan State game went about the way I expected it to. With Alabama screwing up so badly, Oregon jumps from the #6 spot to the #3 spot.

I have to admit, I am glad that State scored at least 10 points in their 10 to 31 loss to Oregon. I've never been a huge fan of Oregon and them coming in the Big 10 like this and doing so well is not giving me any more reason to appreciate them.

Penn State got a nice boost in the rankings as well. They now sit at #4 in the nation and they had a nice win over UCLA on Saturday. In case you weren't sure, there are three Big 10 teams in the top 5 right now. That's pretty amazing.

Texas A&M had a big win against Missouri 41 to 10 and proceeded to leap frog them in the rankings snagging the #15 spot while Missouri drops down to #21.

#25 SMU had a big win over Louisville 34 to 27, and #18 Indiana took down Northwestern 41 to 24. I'm a big salty about that game. I was so sure that the Wildcats were going to topple the Hoosiers that I put money on it. I should have known better... I bet if I hadn't bet on it, they would have won.

#2 Ohio State had an easy mode game against Iowa beating them 35 to 7. #5 Georiga also had a pretty easy game taking down Auburn 31 to 13. That's a fun score isn't it?

Then we had Ole Miss at the #9 spot beating South Carolina 27 to 3. As I mentioned before, Alabama fell to Vandy 40 to 35, and #10 Clemson beat Florida State 29 to 13. You almost have to feel bad for the Seminoles at this point. I actually put money on them winning that game too because I figured they have to get lucky at some point.

I was wrong...

#17 Boise State thumped on Utah State 62 to 30, and #11 Iowa State beat Baylor 43 to 21. Finally, there were a few more big upsets this past weekend. Minnesota beat USC knocking the Trojans out of the top 25 and beating them 24 to 17. Washington had some fourth quarter heroics to stun #24 Michigan beating them 27 to 17, and #8 Tennessee fell out of the top 5 with their loss to Arkansas 14 to 19.

Finally, #6 Miami took down California 39 to 38. I'm also a bit upset about that game. I had money on California to beat Miami. The fact that they fell just two points shy of accomplishing that makes it even worse! At least if it had been a blowout I might have been able to handle it a bit better.

What was the spread on that game? it had to favor Miami largely. I guess you were getting good odds on that bet though

I'm not sure what the spread was. I probably should have done the over. I might have actually had a better chance. I doubt they expected the score to go that high.

had you taken the over it would have been one of the lowest scoring games in the season... or at least that is how it ends up working out for me. Betting on over/under s can be a lot of fun on games I am only mildly interested in, especially the over because then you can just get excited any time that either team does well.
