A Piss Poor Start

Fantasy Football (1).png

Why is it every time I think things are going to be different, reality comes around the corner with a two by four and beams me right up side the head? Although past experience has taught me to temper my expectations, I was actually a bit excited about my fantasy football league this season. I reached out to my family members and let them know the draft would be taking place in short order.

There were several of them who were actually surprised that we were still doing the league, and perhaps I should have taken that as a warning. No doubt in a fit of rage or utter dismay at the heinous efforts of my team last year, I may have declared "we aren't doing this again next year".

How quickly I forget.

I knew on Saturday morning that my week was shot. It didn't really matter what happened on Sunday. Opened the Yahoo fantasy app to find that my niece's team had already scored 95 points across the two game that were on Thursday and Friday.

Sure 95 to 0 isn't a totally insurmountable deficit to close, but it wasn't looking good. She still had several players left to play, I still had all of my players. It was just an unfortunate sequence of circumstances that really pushed her ahead as you will see.

Brown, Barkley, and Reed killed me. It's actually a bit interesting to see how many players from Pennsylvania teams she has on her roster. I can't imagine they will continue to perform at this level, but one week was enough to push her well past me.

I was on the fence about playing Goff or Allen. It appears Allen was the better choice (a lot of good it did me). I will likely be sticking with him moving forward. Metcalf has been on my team in the past and he never fails to be a disappointment for me. I'm not giving up on him yet, but there is a good chance he will end up on the trading block sooner rather than later. I'm not holding onto dead weight this year like I usually do.

Coleman was also a bit of a bust for me as you see above. I'm not mad about 10 points from Thomas, but more would always be welcome, am I right?

Conner gave me a solid showing and 15 points from a running back is about the average that I would expect. From there, it was just all downhill. Edwards with under three points, Bowers with just over five points. Ouch!

Not to mention the Las Vegas defense that only managed to score one point. I expected better from them to be honest.

As you can see, my bench would have been little help. Sure, I probably should have played Elliott and Cooks. I likely won't be making that mistake again. To be fair though, most of their numbers were scored off a single play. If they are getting so few touches, it isn't going to be a good season for me.

Sadly, @mrsbozz fell short by less than one point in her match up. Once again, her and I sit at the very bottom in our league standings. At this point, using AI to roster my team is looking more and more like an option...

At the very least it could be a fun experiment.
