The overpass

High in the air or below the ground - overpasses and underpasses have always fascinated me and made me feel happy, like a child, whenever I cross them.

I don't know what this feeling is due to. Is it simply because these two positions - high in the air and underground - are not the natural positions of man on Earth? Or simply because I grew up in a small town without subways, not to mention overpasses. And that's why every time I go through such structures as an adult, I feel like a child who never crossed them in his childhood.

The same can be said then for railways and trains. Because in the city where I was born there was not even a train station. 🙂 And here I am, in this city, in this miracle of communist construction, and I see this overpass, this footbridge. Located just above the train tracks.

Of course, it was not built during the communist era (if we still want to delude ourselves that the present is not communist, just because it is not officially considered such). It was built quite recently. Maybe about 7 years ago. And this is evident from afar.

I have already shown you enough buildings in this city. Built a long time ago, built in the middle of the last century and built at the beginning of this - old, modern and in Stalin Baroque design. They are all built very well, with skills, a lot of resources and very high quality. Which never ceases to amaze me. But there are still things that are not very well done in this city. For one reason or another. Showing the true nature of the people in this country, the mentality and lack of funds. From which everything else follows.

Now I imagine a resident of this city reading this material, these free thoughts of mine on the life, culture, history and lifestyle of this people and take offense. Because this overpass has an interesting design, completely simple. It also has a color, two colors so as not to be too boring.

But its workmanship is not the best possible. The last time we went through it, me and my boyfriend, to get to the market it leads to, it was raining, and puddles had gathered in the middle of the overpass.

Yes, it is normal to have water inside, as it is not protected in any way. From both sides. Since there is just one wire mesh (weren't there other materials and other possibilities for its construction?) And at both ends of the footbridge, where the stairwells begin, someone has drilled a hole in the concrete with a drill - just like that - where it landed. Most likely with the idea of the collected water to drain somewhere. But this idea and this intention was not successful, because the holes are not drilled in the right places, they are higher than the places where the water collects, and the water does not reach them at all.

So, you can see with your own eyes - an interesting simple design that seeks more rationality than anything else. But not a good performance.

It turns out that someone somewhere didn't do his job well. Or many people at once. And this is one of the things that irritates me the most here - when something is not done well, when someone does a responsible job, but does not put all his efforts into it and does not take any responsibility. This is so typical of this nation. And now do you understand why the buildings built really well in this city do not cease to amaze me with their quality?
