A SKILL THAT PAYS

Hello everyone, how's it going with you? Thank you for stopping by my blog. It feels good to be able to write on this topic : 'That one skill'

I'm going to need a little bit of your time as I take you on a ride down the lane of the skill that I have that pays.

I was in the first semester of my final year when a pandemic happened that made everyone to pause studies.
I had been in the house for a couple of months until I got sick of the house. I mean waking up to a daily routine could be so boring.

I did not have a good phone then, so I could not access the Internet. Ouch! You can imagine the monotony.
I practically read all the novels I could lay my hands on. I did a lot of writing most especially poems.
The only thing that used to take me out of the house was church and this did not happen often.

One day, I was in a discussion with a friend. Damn! This guy is a good conversationalist. I mean it. One thing I love most is that you can't sit with Tom without learning something. He asked me a skill that I could love to do. I told him writing. Yes! I love writing and reading so much that I get accustom to not leaving the house without a text. As a reserved person, the things that keep me company are my novels, books and pen 😛.
I'm working on that part of being reserved actually

After telling him that, he said it was lovely but he was asking of a skill that can be lucrative especially in a time like the one in which we were at that moment.
I told him I had non and he advised that I make use of the break to learn something.

I scanned my head to find something that might interest me😕 but anything I could think of was out of my reach. He gave me options but I found most of the things he mentioned as stressful even after he expatiated on each of it.
After all was said, I chose fashion and design. I knew I loved creativity and fashion but the act of sitting of a manual machine to paddle to me would be very hectic.
I told him I will think about it any figure out what I at least like.

Finally, I resolved to fashion and design. It was hard to cope at the onset but I could not let my mum's money and effort to waste-- I am not that kinda child. At some point I started getting used to it-- the usual back ache and headache. I thought I would not be able to last long but I was surprised at how things turned up.

I started making clothes for family and friend with their fabrics. I mostly used their fabrics to learn new styles before I could see for any other person. I did mistakes sometimes and learn from it.

By the time the pandemic came to a halt, I resumed school with a fresh skill though i wasn't so perfect. I started sewing cloths for friends in school and that stood as my side hustles and I was able to sort out some bills without asking mum of it.

Though lectures did not give me time to stay throughout the year I applied for. I'm still grateful that I did not waste that chance that I had to do something meaningful.
Even after I finished school and went for another program, I still used the skill I acquired to pay most of my bills till date.

Below are samples of my work, I hope you'd love it

(Edited)

It looks like the COVID-19 lockdown motivated most of us to learn a skill after getting tired of the same routine every day. I also picked up a skill during that period and it has been serving me well. Well, at least that's the one good thing from that pandemic

You made those? From a skill that you couldn’t finish learning?
And you tell me you’re not perfect?
Wow I don’t believe you

I see so many African ladies are into sewing, must be very common there.

Okay 👍
It is a lucrative skill because we love celebrations here and celebration comes with fashion and you know what fashion screams right?🤣
