A loved one confides in you, but the secret could damage someone else you care about. What do you do?

It's a festive period and everyone was happy and excited to go back home for school break including me and my 2 best friends Tobi and Sam, With the excitement and joy in the atmosphere I couldn’t help but think about the hurtful secret Sam had shared with me towards Tobi.

On the 20th of December, something unexpectedly happened between my 2 best friends on the school premises unknowingly one of them which is Sam is not contented with the apology proposed instead he decided to handle the situation in a hurtful manner.

I was closer to Sam than Tobi so he decided to share the secret with me the night before our festive vacation, I was torn. I wanted to honor Sam’s trust and keep his secret safe but on the other hand, I couldn't keep up with the feeling of keeping quiet.

During the vacation, I spent restless nights thinking about the tight corner I found myself so I decided to communicate with my mom concerning the issue. My mom gave me a listening ear as I narrated the whole incident to her.

My mom said gently, “I understand how hard it is for you to keep your friend’s secret but at the same time It is important to Consider the danger involved. So as not to break anyone's trust I decided to arrange a meeting with Sam.

Sam stays not too far from my area so it's way easier for us to meet physically. So we decided to meet up in a game house more like what Sam likes best.

After playing 3 games with Sam I effortlessly allowed him to beat me and I saw the excitement in his mood so I decided to seize that opportunity to redirect his thoughts and actions toward the situation but to my surprise, he smiled and told me he never meant all he said and he was only trying to test my level of intelligence and to see if truly I’m his best friend.

What I felt in me was way more than happiness because I get to keep two of my best friends and at the same time I can be confided in. Not long Tobi walked in the game house, Sam had invited him over. I chuckled and I hugged them both.

In the end, our friendship grew stronger. We three get to learn how to balance loyalty with responsibility.
