The power of riffs rockin' through the ages - Week 201

That music is part of my life, there's no doubt. Since I was very young, I've always been musically active, if we can put it that way. As I've mentioned here several times before, a good part of my life I lived with my grandmother and uncle, and it was they who shaped my 'musical character'.

Classical music, country music or rock and roll, what's my preference and why?

I remember perfectly sharing afternoons upon afternoons with my uncle listening to the classic rock he loves so much. Led Zeppelin, Guns n' Roses, and many other bands of the style. And, growing up so influenced like that, it's obvious that rock also became one of my favorite musical genres.

I was won over over the years by the guitar riffs, pounding drums, distinctive bass, and captivating lyrics. Of course, like many other musical styles, rock also has its variations and I have a special passion for emocore, hardcore, screamo, and a bit of metalcore.

Emo, with its introspective and melodic lyrics, which often speak of love, captivates me with its emotional sincerity. In my playlist are classics like Mineral, Jimmy Eat World, The Used, Dashboard Confessional, as well as Brazilian bands like Fresno, NX Zero, Level Nine, Dance of Days, Dandara, Switch Stance, and many others, who manage to express complex feelings in a way that seems to resonate directly from the soul. The intensity of emotions conveyed through emocore is something that has always attracted me since the beginning of adolescence, as there is a deep connection with the experiences and anxieties portrayed.

As for hardcore, another branch of rock, which has a raw and powerful energy, with a visceral appeal that stirs my feelings right from the first chords. In hardcore, Brazilian bands dominate my playlist more: Dead Fish, Sugar Kane, Garage Fuzz, Fistt, Pense, CPM 22, are among my favorites, alongside international acts like NOFX, Millencolin, and Bad Religion, for example. The aggressiveness and urgency of hardcore, which often raises political issues, resonate with me, offering an escape valve for frustrations and discontent from the world around me.

Screamo is my moment to let out what troubles me most with its mix of intense emotions and distressing vocals. Thank you Finch, Story Of The Year, Underoath, and many other wonderful bands for that.

Finally, I also have a soft spot for favorites in metalcore, which combines the aggression of metal with the melody of hardcore. Bands like Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, and Avenged Sevenfold blend heavy guitar riffs with captivating choruses, creating an auditory experience that is both energetic and emotionally engaging.

I could spend hours here talking about my influences in rock, which go far beyond what I've already mentioned. Rock is truly a musical genre that I love, in almost all its variations. And I practically won't say no if invited to watch a show, whether it's a famous band or even a 'garage' one.
