I visited our old house after several years of not visiting it

The house is very important in our lives because it will serve as one family's home or residence. When I was younger, our house was a very simple one. We lived in the middle of rice fields. Our house is just made of wood, and we rarely have lights, so it's hard for us to do our assignments because we are just using a lamp or sometimes our father's flashlight that he uses when he is going to catch a fish or frog in the lake or rice field during the night until dawn.

I still remember the day when we will transfer to our new house. Our house is still simple, but compare to our old house before, our roof is finally made with some few iron sheets, but the half of it is made with hay while the half body of our house is made with bamboo while the other half was made with hollow blocks. Our house is not as perfect as what our neighbor had, but I am so very happy that we can sleep comfortably already.

However, when my parents divorced when I was in grade 9, I barely went home in that house. I just asked my younger cousins on the father's side how our house was because, though it's just located in the same barangay, it's located in the south, while our grandparents' house, which is where I live right now, is located in the north.

But when I was in senior high school, I always visited our old house when I had some time. when I was depressed or I missed my family because my older sister is not living with me in our grandparents' house anymore. She started college, and she needs to rent a dorm. My mom is in another country working just so she can give us what we need to finish our studies, while our father is already with his new family. Being the youngest in our family was very difficult for me at that time because I was longing for their love.

After how many years, I decided to visit our old house, but my mom will get mad because she really doesn't want us to visit our old house again. I sneaked out earlier and just told my grandma that I would just go to school to buy ice cream.

I want to go to our old house because I was worried after Typhoon Paeng attacked our area. I was worried that the house would collapse because it has been neglected for several years.

So as my entry for this Wednesday walk, come and join me to travel, and let's see how the condition of our old house is now.

When I arrived at the school, that was the moment that I started taking pictures of what was happening to me on the way.

So here it is: when I arrived at the school, I saw the street foods, and I was hungry just from looking at them, so I decided to buy 3 pieces of fresh lumpiang gulay and eat it on the road while walking to divert my attention from the people around me because I am an introverted person.

After I finished my food, I looked around to see if there were any people looking at me. Because I want to take a picture of the road.

While I'm looking around, this familiar road is still the same. I never got a chance to experience walking this way again after I graduated high school. Though I live in the same barangay, I don't go to this southern part of our barangay because my mom won't allow it.
When I arrived at the area where our old house was located, I didn't know how to enter now because the compound where our house and my uncle's family house are located already has this fence. It's a good thing that I can use the big rock that I can step on so that my legs won't hurt when I climb. It took me a lot of minutes to come up with an idea of how I could climb. Lol, I know that my mom is the reason why we have this thing here.

This is our old house. We have lived here since I was in fourth grade until I was in ninth grade.

After seeing it again after how many years, I can't stop my tears. Sorry if I'm being dramatic, but this is how I felt when I visited our old house again. I remembered the happy times that happened here in this house with my family. Though our house is small and simple, it doesn't matter to me because what's important to me is being with my family again, but I think this will never happen again.

Now let's get inside and see what it looks like after several years of not taking care of it.

I can't believe that this is what will be waiting for me when I go inside. Some old things have been on the floor, and a lot of dust has been there too. I wonder if it's because of the strong wind due to the typhoon or because of my father when he was visiting this house. But what caught my attention is that our table and chair were gone, but as you can see in the image, that part is where we eat.

We had a simple table and four chairs made of plastic before, but I don't know where they are or who keeps them.

Of all the things that were on the floor, this sash is the only thing that caught my attention. This is my sash from when I was crowned Miss Junior 2015 when I was in my third year of high school during our JS Prom Night. Oh, I don't like to see this again, actually, because I have a bad memory of it.
Anyway, the next part of the house is our kitchen. This is where my father and older sister cooked our food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Of course, I also have a good memory for this kitchen because when I was alone here before, I cooked my own food, and I thought that a sautéed corn beef should have a lot of water. It's a good thing that my father arrived early, because I might have burned down our house at that time. Lol

And you know what my favorite part of our old house is?

Welcome to my old room!

This room. This is my solo room. When my mom decided to work abroad and my older sister was studying in college, my parents renovated it as my own room while my father slept in the living room. What I really like about this room is that the bed and the cabinet were made of wood and plywood and were my own customized designs. It means that they are the ones who made my cabinet and bed, but I drew it before to see what should be the design of my cabinet, and if I will have my own room in our own house again in the future, this kind of cabinet is what I really like to have again.

But wait a minute! Where are my foam bed and my shirts here? But anyway, it doesn't matter anymore because I think they have been kept for my stepsisters.

After roaming around and remembering some happy memories that have been kept in this old house of ours, I decided to go out.

And when I go out, I noticed this part or side area of our house. This part is actually owned by us as their children since our parents are now divorced. Mama told me this is my sister and I's inheritance including where our old house stood. However, I don't know what I will going to do to this because my older Sister doesn't have any plans to build her own house here so she told me that I should have this if I want in the future.

I just let out a loud sigh awhile ago while looking at it and decided to go home because it's 5pm in the evening already.

After visiting our old house this Wednesday, I was relieved that our house is still standing despite a lot of typhoons passing by after several years of not taking care of it.

But I was still sad to see it like that. So I am planning to clean it when I have some time. I will borrow some cleaning tools from our uncle's family the next time I visit there again.

Anyway, this is all for today! This is my Wednesday Walk Experience, and I hope that you enjoyed roaming around inside of our old house, though it's so very messy, which is why I edited it using the black and white filter. Haha

Thank you for reading!

The house as a collective image of our whole life. Collected all our memories, dreams and hopes. Our whole life. It's so sad when all that is left behind. I hope you get a chance to clean it up and take care of it.

Yeah, you are right. We can't do anything about it but just say, "How I wish we could go back to the time we used to be." And yes, I will clean it when I have some time to visit there again. Thanks for reading! 🥺❤️

Children is the ones really affected when parents are separated. Imagine, your mom stopped you wven just visiting your old house. She might have sad experience in that house thats why she don't want to visit it again. But you who love that place really missed it.

I feel you sis kasi nung giniba na ang bahay namin for 18 years parang mangiyak ngiyak din kaming iniisip ang mga memories ng bahay na yun kasama si tatay. Tapos ngayon wala na sya.

Yep i understand my Mom naman e. Apektado din po siya kaya ganun yung bahay na yan kasi inuuwi ni papa yung kabet nya before.

Aww. Nakakalungkot po bakit po giniba? Jusko. 🤧

Kaya pala, ang sakit talaga para sa mom mo. Yun siguro yung time na nag abroad sya?

Giniba kasi super luma na at nagtagilid na para ng matutumba. Made of kawayan lang kasi yun. Sinira na lang kaysa maka disgrasya pa kapag natumba.

This reminds me of our own old house. It is still standing but slowly crumbling as no one is taking of it.

Btw, your old house seems it can still be used if cleaned and some few minor fixes. The surrounding property can also be monetized by renting it out, planting crops or even using it as an area to raise some animals that you can sell like kalding, manok or baboy. 😊

I wonder kung anong experience ni mama nyo dyan sa bahay na yan to the point na ayaw nya kayong pumunta dyan. I'm guessing it's not a pretty one.

Anyways, I wonder kung anong klaseng business ang feasible para sa lugar area na yan. So far, ang naiisip ko lng eh plantation ng palay or kaya ay mga fruit bearing trees. 😊
