In this post, I will discuss the types of essential proteins, previously I have discussed one of the essential proteins, called Histidine L- Histidine: Functions, Benefits, and Potency in the Human body. Next, I will explain Methionine, its uses, benefits and side effects if there is a low of this protein source.


Introduction

Protein is one of the main sources of nutrition for humans to meet the needs for calories, vitamins and other important substances. Just like carbohydrates and fats, protein plays a role in many aspects of growth like maintaining healthy hair, nails, teeth, and others. Therefore, we need to keep our daily sources of amino acids fulfilled so that they do not become a source of disease in the future.


Protein is classified as essential and non-essential, essential being a type of protein that cannot be produced by the human body but must be supplied from outside, which usually comes from foods such as meat, vegetables or fruit. There are 9 types of essential amino acids that come from many foods, the human body can meet all types of protein by regularly eating foods that contain essential protein, each type has its benefits as I will discuss, called Methionine.


About Methionine

Methionine is one of nine types of essential amino acid that is important for the human body. Essential amino acids are amino acids that cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained from food or supplements. Methionine is composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur atoms. This amino acid recreates an important thing in many biological processes that occur in the human body.

One of the main functions of methionine is to help produce protein in the human body. This amino acid also plays a role in the formation of collagen, a protein that helps strengthen skin, hair and nails. Methionine can also help strengthen the immune system and help regulate metabolism. Methionine can be fulfilled from various food sources, like beef, chicken, fish, eggs and milk. Nuts, seeds, and green vegetables also contain methionine, although in smaller amounts.


Benefits of Methionine

    Methionine can help protect liver health. This amino acid has the ability to break down fat in the liver, thereby reducing the risk of developing liver disease. In addition, methionine can also help eliminate toxins in the body, thereby strengthening the liver's function in cleaning the blood.

    Methionine can help improve brain health. This amino acid is necessary for the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, which helps regulate mood and reduce stress. Methionine can also help improve concentration and memory.
  • Maintain Skin Health
    Methionine can help maintain healthy skin. This amino acid helps produce collagen, a protein that helps strengthen and rejuvenate skin. Methionine can also help fight sun damage and pollution.
  • Improve Heart Health
    Methionine can help improve heart health. This amino acid helps reduce homocysteine levels in the blood, which can damage blood vessels and increase the risk of heart disease. Methionine can also help lower cholesterol levels in the blood.
  • Maintain Healthy Bones and Teeth
    Methionine can help maintain bone health. This amino acid helps produce collagen, a protein that is also necessary for bone formation. Methionine can also help increase calcium absorption in the body.

Methionine Side Effects

Using large amounts of methionine can have certain side effects, such as:

  • Increases the Risk of Heart Disease
    Methionine can increase the risk of heart disease if consumed in excessive amounts. This amino acid can increase homocysteine levels in the blood, which can damage blood vessels and increase the risk of heart disease.
  • Increases the Risk of Kidney Disease
    Using large amounts of methionine can also increase your risk of kidney disease. This is because methionine can increase uric acid levels in the blood, which can cause kidney problems.
  • Increases Inflammation Risk
    Using large amounts of methionine can also increase the risk of inflammation in the body. This is because methionine can increase the production of free radicals in the body, which can cause cell and tissue damage.

Conclusion

Methionine is an essential amino acid that is essential for the human body. This amino acid has many important functions and benefits for the health of the human body, including improving liver, brain, skin, heart and bone health. To ensure that the body gets sufficient methionine intake, it is important for us to meet our daily protein intake from whole foods with minimal processing so that the nutritional content in them remains intact and healthy.
