Hoarding My Gold

Since retiring, my mother has been low on funds and it's been one of the scariest things ever. It's been about six years and she's yet to be paid a dime by the government in gratuities or pension after 35 years in service and being continously taxed all those years.

I didn't have money conversations with my parents growing up as that was 'adult talk' so I don't exactly know their money habits but from what I could see, we were living paycheck to paycheck. My mum had a business running for years that funded itself for the most part and it was tough for her juggling work and business.

Now that she's retired, I can tell she wishes she had focused more on her business than her job. The security that comes with having a government job doesn't look bright anymore and hers is one of the many unfortunate cases.

These days, her complaints are about money and several regrets. There was a time she sold some of her gold and she was mind-blown with the proceeds from her resale. It was quadruple what she had paid for for it years ago.

She began comparing it to all the luxury fabric she had bought in her wardrobe that were now old school and not worth much. She says if they were gold, she would have been rich now and I couldn't agree more. Now, she's hodling on tight to what's left of her gold and I'm really impressed.

It got me thinking long-term and how I should actively seek opportunities that will pay me when I'm older and not just gratify my current urges. My mother had bought gold then with the intention to adorn herself with them and not necessarily with an investment plan in mind. But many years later, that unconscious investment helped her out on several occasions.

I liken that to purchasing altcoins right now. A little $10 here and $100 there isn't a whole lot right now, but who knows, I just might have unconsciously signed in to one of my most profitable plans.

My mother uses the phrase, 'if I had known' a lot and despite making a wise decision of investing in her property, she is still in regret of not diversifying her finances. I don't want to be filled with regrets about my finances later in life and now, I know and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be involved in crypto, especially hive, at this time.

I was reading a post by @josediccus today and he touched on how crypto and a blockchain like hive has impacted us so much so that there is a shift from our traditional way of thinking. You only need to be on hive for a while before you begin thinking diversification and you find yourself maturing in several ways you couldn't have imagined.

These days, all we have is faux job security and you have to create your own security in the form of investments and smart financial decisions. Even with the volatility of crypto, you still have some security as you're able to manipulate your way around the market to one.

I am a minimalist at heart, but these days, I find myself trying to hoard like my mother but this time, not luxury fabrics. As gold was to her, so is crypto to me today and I intend to hodl just like she did with her gold. I wouldn't mind getting actual gold though.

I probably do not own any luxury item apart from my phones. Even Nigerian jobs and superiors often threatens people under them, so much that that sense of security is taken away.
Knowing Crypto alone broadens the perspective, gives one a sense of security and diversification that no millions in the bank can ever give.

It's so bad that it takes one person not liking you to lose your job. There are very few organisations with the interest of the employees in mind.

Happy new year!

Your mother needs to be idolized right now. She actually made decisions without actually knowing that they'll help her in the future. I guess she practiced hodling before we even knew that word existed.

They're really a lot of lessons we need to learn, me for one and I hope I implement these lessons in the year 2022. They're decisions that need to be made, investments that are future oriented need to be embarked on. Thank you for opening my eyes again to the possibilities that hodling for the future brings.

We're a lot more wiser now, it's all man for himself. This Government is a Complete waste of time so it'll be wrong to put any hope in them.

My regards to your mom, tell her that her money problems would end soon..❤️🥺

I read an article that said if you bought $100 worth of Shiba Inu the beginning of this year, your portfolio would be worth $53 million as we speak. Beats frivolous $100 expenses we get involved in.

While it seems like getting in on Shiba is late at the moment, knowing the right investments and holding them like your mom the legend did is definitely the way forward.

I pray we all have fruitful investments and make better decisions from hence.

That's a lot! To think I knew about it then. Anyway, there will always be more opportunities.

I pray we all have fruitful investments and make better decisions from hence.

Same here.

Between gold and some crypto asset I can't really judge which is better, they are all such good Investment, but I like the fact that hive taught me how to think outside the box and the diversification I learnt here wouldn't have been taught any better elsewhere
