Revisiting Return to Monkey Island, got used to the new graphics style, gameplay is awesome.

Rückkehr zu Return to Monkey Island, hab mich an den neuen Grafik-Stil gewöhnt, das Gameplay ist der Wahnsinn.

Vor Kurzem gab es auf Steam eine Aktion für Return zu Monkey Island, bei der ich zugeschlagen habe. Bin bereits im 4. Teil angelangt und kann daher ein Update zum Game schreiben.

Bin ein großer Fan der ersten beiden Monkey Island-Teile und habe mich gefreut, dass nach mehr als 30 Jahren jetzt eine würdige Fortsetzung von Ron Gilbert entwickelt wurde. Wäre hätte das gedacht.

War sicher schwierig alleine schon wegen der Lizenzsituation, mittlerweile hat Disney die Rechte an den alten Lucasfilm Games.

Das Game wurde ursprünglich wegen dem comichaften Grafik-Stil gehatet und ehrlich gesagt hätte ich mir auch lieber Pixelart wie bei Thimbleweed Park oder eine etwas schönere, realistischere Grafik wie in Monkey Island 2 gewünscht. Einfach schon aus Nostalgie-Gründen.

Interessanterweise gibt es im Game keine Character-Closeups so wie früher, vermutlich ist das auch dem neuen Grafikstil zum Opfer gefallen.

Jetzt zum Positiven.

War der Grafikstil bei der Ankündigung noch eine Enttäuschung für mich, macht das Spiel sonst praktisch alles richtig.

Das ganze Setting, die Puzzles und die gesprochenen Dialoge sind einfach der Wahnsinn. Man merkt jeden Schritt / Click, wie viel Liebe in das Game investiert wurde, um die alte Monkey Island Serie wieder zum Leben zu erwecken.

Auch die Puzzles sind gelungen, eigentlich immer logisch (zumindest für Möchtegern-Piraten) und vor allem mega witzig. Neben unzähligen Zitaten aus der alten Serie, gibt es im Game auch viele Anspielungen auf aktuelle Probleme und sogar Corona wird durch den Kakao gezogen.

Bin gespannt, wie lange ich noch brauche, um den 4. Teil zu lösen. Hoffe, es dauert noch lange, da das Spiel so gut ist. Zur Not gibt es auch ein Hint-Buch, wo man stufenweise Tipps zur Lösung der Puzzles bekommt.

Stellt euch vor, früher gab es kein Hint-Buch und auch kein Internet, wo man schnell nachschauen konnte. Das war hart.

Das Game ist jetzt auch für Casual Gamer geeignet und das Beste ist, es läuft sogar auf meinem (Nicht-Gaming) Notebook.

Recently there was a promotion on Steam for Return to Monkey Island, which I took advantage of. I'm already in Part IV of the game and can therefore write an update on the adventure game.

I am a big fan of the first two Monkey Island parts and was pleased that after more than 30 years, a worthy sequel was developed by Ron Gilbert. Who would have thought that?

Was certainly difficult alone because of the licensing situation, meanwhile Disney has the rights to the old Lucasfilm Games.

The game was originally hated because of the comic-like graphic style and to be honest I would have preferred pixel art like in Thimbleweed Park or a more beautiful, realistic style like in Monkey Island 2. Simply for nostalgia reasons.

Interestingly, there are no character closeups in the game like there used to be, presumably this has also fallen victim to the new graphics style.

Now to the positive side.

While the graphics style was a disappointment for me at the announcement, the game does practically everything else right.

The whole setting, the puzzles and the spoken dialogues are just insane. You notice every step / click how much love was invested in the game to bring the old Monkey Island series back to life.

The puzzles are also well done, actually always logical (at least for wannabe pirates) and above all insanely funny. In addition to countless quotes from the old series, there are also many allusions to current problems in the game and even Corona is pulled through the cocoa.

I'm curious how long it will take me to solve the last part of the game. I hope it will take a long time, because the game is so good. In a pinch, there's also a hint book where you can get step-by-step tips on solving the puzzles.

Imagine, in the past there was no hint book and also no internet where you could look solutions up quickly. That was tough.

The game is now suitable for casual gamers and best of all, it even runs on my (non-gaming) laptop.
