Denke, dass es in Wirklichkeit ein verstecktes Kreditsystem ist. Gebrauchte Brillen wird man wohl kaum weiterverkaufen können.
Aufgrund der steigenden Preise, sinkenden Wohlstands werden immer mehr Sachen auf Kredit gekauft.
Brillen sind relativ teuer, da sie individuell gefertigt und angepasst werden müssen. Gute Gläser können schon mehrere Hundert Euro kosten.
Durch ein Abo-Modell ist der hohe Anschaffungspreis nicht sofort fällig, sondern man verpflichtet sich über Jahre auf eine niedrig erscheinende Ratenzahlung.
Dadurch werden die Konsumausgaben vorgezogen, aber die Bezahlung nach hinten verschoben. Für den Konsumenten sind solche Angebote verlockend, birgen aber das Risiko der Überschuldung.
Genau solche Konsum-Kredite können große Schwankungen des BIP verursachen und letztendlich sogar zu Finanzkrisen führen, wenn sich viele Konsumenten gleichzeitig überschulden, mehr kaufen/konsumieren als sie sich leisten können, wenn die Zinsen steigen oder die gekauften Assets (zb Immobilien) plötzlich stark an Wert verlieren.
Was sagt ihr dazu? Würdet ihr Brillen mieten statt kaufen? Was denkt ihr über solche Abo/Kredit-Modelle?

An eyewear retailer in Vienna now also offers a rental/subscription/credit model for glasses. Starting from 9 euros a month, you can rent two pairs of glasses instead of buying them 😂
I think it's actually a hidden credit system. Used glasses are unlikely to be resold.
Due to rising prices and falling prosperity, more and more things are being bought on credit.
Glasses are relatively expensive as they have to be individually manufactured and fitted. Good glasses can cost several hundred euros.
With a subscription model, the high purchase price is not due immediately, but you commit to a seemingly low installment payment for years.
This means that consumer spending is brought forward, but payment is postponed. Such offers are tempting for the consumer, but carry the risk of over-spending.
It is precisely such consumer loans that can cause major fluctuations in GDP and ultimately even lead to financial crises if many consumers become over-indebted at the same time, buy/consume more than they can afford, if interest rates rise or if the assets purchased (e.g. real estate) suddenly lose a lot of value.

I just found out about this on your blog dear friend. I think I would be very cautious about renting glasses. It seems like a good deal upfront, but it might lead to overspending and debt in the long run. I'd rather buy something I can truly afford. Just my opinion though 🥰
I just spent a significant(for me) sum on glasses. I hate paying so much but I would not rent them even if I could. I never pay by installments. Right now I want to buy level 3 VALNAMOR. It costs too much so I am not buying it (also it seems that someone already bought it). But I want to own what I have. In the words of my favorite manga charater Guts:
I think this is a very good attitude especially for consumer goods. At the end of the day, renting will always be more expensive, because one has to pay the interest rates, fees, etc. Businesses want to make money after all.
Your blog seems to be a very current one and I like , I think renting of glasses would make me spend more so I rather buy.
Wäre nix für mich. Alle wollen ein kalkulierbares und kontinuierliches Cash Cow Abo Modell, das für den Kunden erstmal billiger wirkt als es am Ende meist ist. Bei sich ständig verbessernder Software zB. macht das Sinn, aber eine Brille? 😏
I personally would not want a rent/subscription model for glasses. As you kind of mentioned, this type of payment can somewhat hide the actual price of the product.
Also I lost or broke quite a few glasses over the years, so I'm wondering what would happen in that case.
its better to buy. you will only spend more on renting.
Bis Anfang 2022 habe ich immer wieder Produkte auf Kredit gekauft, seit die Zinsen gestiegen sind, habe ich aber darauf verzichtet. 😉
i guess they are trying a new marketing strategy but i dont think renting would work. what if you lost the glasses or cant pay it? how will they track their glasses?

wouldnt it be better to pay it in installment than renting?
From businesses point of view renting is a very nice source of revenue for the products, overall will get more profit out of it than would just by selling usually.
But from the customers point of view, renting stuff gives your obligation to be more careful with the product and also there will be a point where you will have paid more for renting that if you just bought it to yourself.
I think for smaller things that you could afford, renting is not a good idea.

Habs online. Ich gefunden, wollte mir mal die Konditionen näher angucken. Denke mal nicht das man die für 2-3
Monate nur Mieten kann oder?
Teuer sind die Brillen hier zu Lande, extrem teuer. Trage inzwischen Kontaktlinsen, meine ersten Brillen hatte ich hier gekauft, dann später in Serbien mir die Gläser in Gestelle die ich online gekauft hatte einsetzen lassen. Wobei die Gläser dann wiederum aus Ungarn kamen.
Da hatte ich dann für 3 Brillen soviel bezahlt wie hier für eine.
Ist aber lang lang her.
Würde keine Brille mieten, aber kann mir vorstellen, daß manche es aus Not machen müssen, wenn sie eine neue brauchen und nicht mal eben paar Hunderter dafür übrig haben.

VW hat auch 400 Milliarden schulden und zahlt weiterhin munter üppige dividenden und managerbonis aus, *ironie off.

Laufende Kosten sind mir eher unangenehm.
In the long run I'm sure it's cheaper to look for a deal and own them rather than rent. Reselling used glasses frames wouldn't be easy!
Renting of glasses is a no no for me, so what happens at the expiration of the one month? I renew or I stay without?

I don't like the model of renting everything. It might be cheaper in the short-term but I think it just keeps adding costs to everything and it can easily overwhelm people.
