Negotiation | A Way Of Saving Money

When I hear of the word Negotiation, many things and stories always cross my mind especially some scenario I have experience as a guy whenever I followed my mom to the market to get goods, I use to see how they beat down price of things they are intending to get from a seller from 100% in price to like 30-40% and at times a little different in price will stop them from getting that goods from a particular seller just for them to see a cheaper one, I use to wonder or put myself in the seller shoe just to see how I will react if someone decided to price down my goods and at times I will even be shy or afraid to go to the market the next time with my mom because it is embarrassing. Like they use to say, Negotiation is an act of reaching an agreement or a common ground between you and your partner and it isn't about trading alone.

Negotiation is like a skill on it own because not everyone have that good negotiating skills and it comes with a lot of hidden benefits especially when it comes to cutting down your expenses, my mummy will tell me even if it is 10-100 naira you are able to cut down from the good price, if you accumulate them together at the end of the day, it will be useful in getting other things you will need and I will just nod and smile, and with time, I was able to learn a lot which I do apply whenever I want to get some things and they use to see me as a stingy or ijebu man.

Why do people not negotiate?

To some people they see those that negotiate as someone that is broke or stingy or probably look to cheap, some thinks they are too big to cut down prices of goods and just buy things straight, well enough if you have the money, you are free to do so even I was like that at some point until I figured out some sellers take advantages on some certain buyers by adding outrageous price on goods just for their own gain and because you don't want to look to cheap, you will buy the goods. I almost beat my junior brother one day that left the house to get some cloth in the market, he didn't notify anyone and just came back with some cloth and I was like how much did he get them, I screamed when he said he get top and jeans for 20k, I was wowed because I had to calculate how many cloth I will get with such amount like 2 shirt and trousers each if not more but because he was stubborn I just let him be since it isn't my money and to him he got a good cloth at a fair price.

The secret to negotiation

The major secreting to negotiation is your preparation, knowing what you want and at what price, this will help you in preparing your budget and also won't make you spend more that what you budget, you will be able to know the actual price you want to get that particular thing or paying for that goods and preventing you from taking any how price thrown at you. No wonder our parent do list what they want to buy and the actually price they want to get it and before you know it, they will get those stuff and still have some spare money left with them. Also your patience matters a lot, that can always give you some upper hand with who you are dealing with.
