Silver 10 Euro (Germany, FIFA 2006 World Cup)

What's up plebs?

Back with another beautiful commemorative piece from Germany, a 10 euro piece minted in 2006. As the various text engravings make quite clear, this one is dedicated to the FIFA 2006 World Cup that was held from 9 June to 9 July 2006 in Germany. In case you wonder, it was Italy that won the tournament.

Clearly, this is a coin heavily influenced by soccer, both fron and the back.

On one side we have plenty earth with a football in the center and the Brandenburg Gate of Berlin in the middle

The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century neoclassical monument in Berlin, built on the orders of Prussian king Frederick William II after restoring the Orangist power by suppressing the Dutch popular unrest. One of the best-known landmarks of Germany, it was built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel, which used to be the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg. source

Like with most commemorative German coins, the other side features a unique design of the imperial eagle, which in this case it comes in the shape of a football!

As for the edge is engraved with the following text

DIE WELT ZU GAST BEI FREUNDEN

This was the official slogan for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and in English, it translates to "The world as guests among friends."

It was chosen to reflect the idea of hospitality and friendship, emphasizing the welcoming and inclusive nature of the tournament. Heh. How times are changing 😅

When it comes to silver, this beautiful coin is 0.925 and weights 18 g. Not bad :)

Although I am not much of a soccer fan I really like the design of this one. And hey. It's sterling ^_^
