As I have mentioned a couple times in the past, I am trying to up my camera game which just...sucks. šŸ˜‚

So far I can only take decent photos with natural daylight, so I figured to experiment a bit and asked the wife to order me one of those cheap ass Chinese photo booths or whatever they arw called. I think it was 5 euros or something šŸ˜‚

As you can see, it comes with six colored sheets to change the background color. I decided to go with blue and picked some pieces I have laying around. Btw, they all are pieces I have acquired from other #sgs members.

Anyways, here are the "best" shots I managed to take.... They all suck tbh

Honestly, I am really disappointed with the results. Despite my best efforts, all photos came out meh. Maybe this gadget just sucks which is expected from the price. Or maybe I miss something? Maybe the LEDs suck? Or maybe this type of light is not great for shiny silver? Ahhh, dunno, I am just an ape clicking buttons.

Feel free to share any tips I might need to know when using one of these toys!

I guess I'll stick with the natural light of day for now :)

Ok plebs, this is it for today!

I believe you need a polarized filter to cancel all those light reflections...

Keep practicing with natural light influencing the light box. I have one and it can take some time getting used to it. I opt for either a white or black background.

The only reason I got it was to not depend on natural light lel

I never used one like that before. My setup uses indirect lighting, over the years it evolves. LED lights might be a little bright too.

I don't know much about photography, but I think the coins are well represented in the new Photo Booth.

I was kind of on-the-fence in getting one of these rigs for my photography and never got around to finishing that thought. I seem to do okay without it. Is this the Starter kit version?

For silver lovers these all silver coins are very special and their designs are also very good looking.

Thanks for this! I almost ordered one of these 5 euro ones in December, then I decided to wait until my birthday and get one a bit more expensive. I personally had one of these photobooths years ago for my webshop to take pics of the hair accessories and I was very happy with it. Maybe just improve the light instead of the booth?

I went down the Chines rabbit hole of these light boxes this morning and it took me about 30 minutes to decide I'm not going to waste my money on it. I will order these bigger lights and a backdrop instead, win-win as I can also photograph bigger things. It's a bit more expensive but I'm surely not going to pay 40-50 euros for these boxes as they don't even seem more decent than the 5 euro ones :)

Thanks for this post as I'd otherwise probably bought one without doing much more digging :)

I feel the coins are to uptight...sybe the faces in them should smile a bit.

The pirate skull looks dead.
A whole lot of things wrong...

It's not your fault, you just have shitty clients to snap.

Don't be too disappointed, just a little edit can go a long way. Did you use your cellphone or the Nikon camera? Cameras often tend to interpret what they see and produce average grayscale values. This is because cameras are set to provide a neutral color rendering, and they can tend to display bright, reflective surfaces such as silver as medium gray.

This is because of the exposure metering in the camera, which aims for an average exposure. If the camera is exposed to a bright, reflective surface such as silver, it may try to reduce the brightness to bring it to a medium grayscale. This can lead to loss of detail and reduce the glossy effect.

Not a photographer by trade, but I think the best shot is the pirate skull thingy on the cup. Raising it from the 'floor' and adding a different color gave it a real depth. A clear glass may even work idk.
