5 Deutsche Mark (1978, Balthasar Neumann)

What's up plebs!

It's been a while since I last shared one of my silver beauties. Ok, I think I will post one more German coin and then move on with another nationalities for a while 🇩🇪 😂

So, this time we got a commemorative 5 deutche mark piece from 1978. Over four decades old yet still very shiny ^_^

Ok, let's see some more shots before learning more about it

This little beauty is dedicated to the 225th Anniversary (back in 1978) since the death of Balthasar Neumann.

Here's some quick info about him in case you haven't heard of him before:

Johann Balthasar Neumann 27 January 1687 – 19 August 1753), usually known as Balthasar Neumann, was a German architect and military artillery engineer who developed a refined brand of Baroque architecture, fusing Austrian, Bohemian, Italian, and French elements to design some of the most impressive buildings of the period, including the Würzburg Residence and the Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers (called Vierzehnheiligen in German). source and more info

Not surprising, the coin features on the reverse his most famous work, an interior of the Vierzehnheiligen church or the Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers as it is known in English:

The Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers (German: Basilika Vierzehnheiligen) is a church located near the town of Bad Staffelstein near Bamberg, in Bavaria, southern Germany. The late Baroque-Rococo basilica, designed by Balthasar Neumann, was constructed between 1743 and 1772. It is dedicated to the Fourteen Holy Helpers, a group of saints venerated together in the Catholic Church, especially in Germany at the time of the Black Death. source and more info

Here's a tour of the inside. A real beauty!

The edge of the coin comes with the following text engraved

WALLFAHRTSKIRCHE VIERZEHNHEILIGEN

which on English stands for

Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers

And as is the case with most commemorative German coins, we have a unique angry chicken imperial eagle on the observe side

Why so mad bro? 😂

As for silver...11.2 g of 0.625 purity. That's exactly 7 grams of pure silver.

And that pretty much sums up today's coin! As always, feel free to clock any of the links above to learn more!

See you soon with more silver frens!

They are very elegant, I like the one with the instruments like the harp and I think violins, it reminds me of my Venezuelan music, where the harp is a treasure.

Very pretty little coin! Most German coins sold here in the US are so worn down I don't even bother to buy them. That's a beauty!

Not sure what's more impressive, the coin, or the coin stacking photos! I love that to get the edge stamping shots, plus you know it's not alone, it's part of a pack !PIMP

I like that there was still silver in their coins in 1978 — and inscribed edges are just classy!

All German commemorative coins are silver. The more recent ones ( I have a few) are 0.925

They don't look like they're from four decades ago, but they look pretty shiny.

Nice silver coin. The coin is very well maintained for being over 4 decades old.
