Heh, looks like we got a German piece! Who would have thought 😄

As the German text on this side informs us, this is a commemorative coin minted in 1993 for the 1000 years of Potsdam. Fyi, Potsdam is the capital and largest city of the German state of Brandenburg:

It is part of the Berlin/Brandenburg Metropolitan Region. Potsdam sits on the River Havel, a tributary of the Elbe, downstream of Berlin, and lies embedded in a hilly morainic landscape dotted with many lakes, around 20 of which are located within Potsdam's city limits. It lies some 25 kilometres (16 miles) southwest of Berlin's city centre. The name of the city and of many of its boroughs are of Slavic origin source

Not surprisingly, the coin features two of the best known historical buildings of the city, the Sanssouci Palace and the Nicolai Church!

Here's a video tour of the palace if you'd like to learn more about it:

And one about the Nicolai church:

Or you can just check Wikipedia to learn more about both places ^_^

By the way, the yellow part on this side is gold plated. There are also non gold plated variations that just not look as good !

Anyways, time to check the other side of the coin!

As always, a unique design of the imperial eagle. You know Germans...They just love eagles 😄

I like this one btw!

And finally we have an engraved edge:

It reads

DAS GANZE EILAND MUSS EIN PARADIES WERDEN

For

THE WHOLE ISLAND MUST BECOME A PARADISE

According to the all knowing Chatgpt, it's a direct quote of Frederick the Great, monarch of Prussia from 1740 until 1786. It refers to his desire to transform the city of Potsdam into a beautiful and prosperous place.

The coin follows the typical recipe of commemorative Deutsche marks for the time. 15.5 g of 0.625 purity, or about 9.7 g of silver. Not great, not terrible 😂

I paid for it about 5 % over spot so I think it was a decent deal!

All in all, it's one of those meh coins for me, as I don't have much interest in the city of Potsdam or the monuments featured. Just another unique eagle for my on growing German flock 😄

Ok plebs, this concludes today's silver. See you soon with more shiny!

The imperial eagle leaves me with my mouth open, a magnificent design, if I had one of these I would be dancing with happiness, but I am a ( plebs) , this comes directly to me, but there is no problem because it is true, I do NOT have anything accumulated, well yes, friends with whom I smile 😄

All these German coins features different imperial eagle designs, if you really like em they are relatively cheap. Usually about 10$ a piece!

That is pretty damn sweet! That's a beautiful coin! I wish the premiums on European silver wasn't so high here in the US!
