✈️🛫 FASZINATION FLIEGEN ✈️🛫

What's up plebs!

I just returned from a week long trip, spend most of the day yesterday driving..and most of today sleeping lol!

Anyways, how about we take a look to one my cool German coins ? 😄

In the reverse we have a plane landing so maybe we have a coin dedicated to an airport or something?

Close enough. Turns out that this 2009 piece is dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the International Aerospace Expo:

The International Aerospace Exhibition ILA ( ILA Berlin ) in Brandenburg is the most important trade fair for the aerospace industry in Germany and, alongside the Paris Aerosalon and the Farnborough Air Show in England, is one of the largest and most important aerospace trade fairs in the world.

The history of the ILA begins with the International Airship Exhibition from July 10 to October 17, 1909 in Frankfurt am Main . 500 exhibitors showed airships , balloons and airplanes . 1.5 million visitors came during the event. source

As always on the reverse we have a unique design of the imperial eagle, the denomination and minting date:

And as always, it comes with an engraved edge:

It reads

FASZINATION FLIEGEN * TRADITION * INNOVATION *

For

Fly Fascination Tradition Innovation

I did a bit of googling and it doesn't seem to be an official motto of ILA but I guess it's a fitting quote encapsulating the essence of the exhibition and its significance in the world of aviation.

Since this commemorative piece is minted after 2000 it means we are getting a decent amount of silver. Meaning, 18 g of 0.925 purity.

That's 16.65 grams of pure silver! Very nice 🙂

As always, here are some more boring details from Numista:

Issuer Federal Republic of Germany
Period Federal Republic (1949-date)
Type Non-circulating coin
Year 2009
Value 10 Euros (10 EUR)
Currency Euro (2002-date)
Composition Silver (.925)
Weight 18 g
Diameter 32.50 mm
Thickness 2.62 mm
Shape Round
Technique Milled
Orientation Medal alignment ↑↑

I pretty much give zero fucks for the ILA exhibition and chances are if it wasn't for this particular coin I would die without learning for its existence.

But imo it's a really beautiful piece that I dig. And it has a decent amount of silver. Definitely one of my favorite German pieces 😄🙂

Ok plebs, I think this is for today!

See you with more shiny soon 🥳

That coin looks fresh and awesome. I love how it celebrates aerospace innovation with such a unique design on it. Plus, the silver content makes it even cooler. Great find wow, just wow
