The Wedding Party.

(Edited)
As a child, whenever I heard the word “wedding” I'll be so excited, probably because I did the little bride’s duty on most of the weddings I attended. Clicking hands with my small husband (little groom) that gave me so many day-dreams on how I would want my own wedding to be. One of the imaginations I had back then was “wearing a wedding gown that will be, in my words, so long from Nigeria to America”. However, right now if i should hear the word “wedding” what comes to my mind next is the food. Mind you, I have never been one of those who goes to uninvited parties because of food o..hehehe it's not up to that extent.

More than the food, I think my attention will be focused more on how organized the event would play out.

I'm sure I am not the only one who has attended a wedding and wasn't given food because of poor organization. In a cases like that you'll see people rushing for food and some might end up going with 2 or more plates of rice while people like myself that are hungry but love to form something and can't join thr others to push because of food return home empty handed, no souvenirs and no food.

Oh my! I skipped the church wedding and dived over to the reception. Well since the reception carries more fun, I think it is quite understandable. I don't really have more challenges with the white other than the thing with most bride’s arriving late to church for their own wedding, maybe because their own that's why they arrive it.. Well i don't know.

I remembered a time when I was made to join the choir for a friend’s wedding that was fixed by 10am, the bride came in a few minutes past 12pm, at that time the lady leading the praise and worship had already sung her voice out, she was vexed and drained at the same time. I couldn't blame her at all, I was equally tired myself and I'm sure everyone present there felt the same way too.

In all honesty, a wedding for me now isn't the same way my younger self thought it was. As per my country’s tradition which regards bride price as the real marriage, It totally makes it a necessity. Then, being in a more civilized world, I would gladly pursue civil affairs to get a proper marriage certificate which should be fair enough, to getting the blessings from a priest or a pastor, with this I legally became a married woman.

Of course, I love parties and will eventually throw a party depending on my pocket. It's so unfortunate that most people end up in huge debts after getting married.
This very problem is not told to the public. It's however common since broken marriages have surfaced as a result of this reason.
I believe marriage or weddings are supposed to be done without stress, pleasing yourself on your big day and feeling happy, not dealing with a disorganized congregation or running into debts because of the wedding.

Just maybe if everyone could buy my ideal of a simple wedding, there would be more smiles and less stress on their remarkable day.

Showing up at your own wedding is a total turn off for me. I don't want to attend a wedding and wait several hours for it to start because it was poorly organised.

Interesting entry. Well done.

Even if the food is not sweet or half cooked it still has dat party rice taste that makes you unable to throw it away. You'll just be like " dis rice no sweet o" but you're still eating it🤣🤣🤣.

That party rice was terribly unmanageable.

I hate delays at weddings, I also attended a wedding where the bride arrived very late to the point people were all grumbling in church even the pastor got tired and wanted to end the service. On the other hand, I was wishing for him to end the service so the couples could get married later when they're ready to keep to time. Timing matters so intending couples should learn that and stop wasting people's time.

Very true. I didn't even say the part where the groom was made to pay a fine because of the delay caused by his bride.

I don’t think there is a Nigeria wedding that’s done without stress
Even the low key wedding
But there are some actually
But anything that has to do with
Traditional
Church and
Reception
It will be time consuming and stressing

African timing is indeed affecting so many wedding arrangements. But I just believed because its a special day for the couple, guests should always understand as MCs most times favors the couple in timing ⏱

It seems that there are guests who first of all want a lot of food at the wedding and secondly the happiness of the bride and groom. A very heartfelt post, which made me laugh a lot.

Just kidding.
This wedding thing -as you rightly say- should not be stressful, but very enjoyable. How crazy is it that marriages are dissolved because of the debt left by the wedding.

And this thing about brides being late? ha, it's a classic!

You sum it up here. I have seen couples take lone to finance their wedding only to be facing difficulties in paying the loan. There is no point trying to impress people so that the programme would be the topic in town while you suffer the pain of repayment in silent.

Exactly. And i think on most cases, the ladies are at fault here, before you know it, it'll end up as suffering and smiling.
