Charles Edward Anderson Berry, better known as Chuck Berry, would have turned 92 on Thursday. A pioneer of rock and roll, he is considered one of the most influential musicians in the history of music, along with other great musicians such as the Beatles, Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Born in st. Louis, Missouri, USA, he was found dead in his home in March of last year. Three years ago he received the Polar Prize, the Nobel Prize for Music, for his extraordinary legacy in song. One of them, Johnny B. Hood, is an indisputable anthem. Without a doubt, the first chords, guitar riffs and choruses (the legendary Go, Johnny, Go) occupy a place of honor in the collective imagination and popular culture of the 20th century.

As in other countries, it is understandably difficult to find a major band or artist that has not been covered. The song first appeared on his third studio album, Chuck Berry Above (1959), but was released as a single by Chess Records on March 31, 1958. But look no further. We all know that the original author of this song was Marty McFly, who sang it at the prom three years earlier in the 1955 film Back to the Future.

Pianist Johnny Johnson taught himself to create songs on the keyboard. After serving in World War II, he gained some popularity fronting a trio that toured all the clubs in Chicago and St. Louis. On New Year's Eve 1952 they had to give an important concert and he had to replace saxophonist Alvin Bennett. He started looking and found a guitarist who would play only at Nat King Cole and Muddy Waters bars: Chuck Berry.

Soon, leading an alternative group, he meets one of his idols, Waters, who asks him to visit the founder of the Chess Records record label. Everything was said and done and the contract was signed. Chuck and Johnny wrote songs like Roll over Beethoven, Sweet Little Six or Maybellen that became known as rock and roll. But the pianist had a problem with alcohol and everything turned out well. He drank too much and Berry made him drink more by telling him "Johnny, be nice" between songs.
