Listnerds Newbies Guide | What's A Click-Through Rate? (CTR)

Listnerds Newbies Guide - What's a CTR.png

What does CTR stand for?

When analyzing your sent emails on ListNerds, you probably noticed that there's an abbreviation there that says CTR. Although it's probably clear to most people that are sending emails, I sure don't want to dismiss those that are wondering what it stands for. We all came from a point where we didn't know anything and still had to learn about email marketing. I personally never did anything in email marketing in the past, but I do remember the CTR abbreviation and what it means.

image.png

It stands for "Click-Through Rate".

What's the point of checking the CTR?

It's probably more important to discuss what this actually means in terms of how valuable this metric can be for your personal analysis of your mailing behaviour. As with the number of openings and clicks, the CTR tells you something important from which you could learn.

If you send out 1000 emails, and 100 people open it, but only 25 people decide to click on your link, this means your CTR is only 25% which is low. That means that 75% of the people reading your email weren't interested in clicking on the link. If they didn't click on your link, they can also not verify your email by voting it. This means you missed a shot of getting closer to the 20 upvotes needed to earn LISTNERDS. Such a shame!

You could say that the number of openings increases with good catchy titles in the emails, but that's not the only factor so not guaranteed for more openings. I personally find it important to see how many people decided to click on my link, from those opening it. And on top of that, how many voted. The voting is still a bit of a grey/unknown area so it seems. I personally don't have enough CTP power to vote on all the emails every day, so this may be an issue for others too.

If your CTR is somewhere between 80-100% I think you're doing fine/great! I strive to be above 80% and so far most were in the 90% range so I'm happy with my CTR.

How to improve your CTR

Create high-quality emails, proofread the content, check the links and use the preview option to make sure you haven't missed any spelling errors or links in there. It baffles me to see how many emails are sent without even checking if there's a link in the email. That's an opportunity gone to waste. Let's try to avoid that.

I believe if you write a good email and/or link it to a site/blog where you give more insights on the topic and (I think this is important!) add your personal touch to it, you will find more connections and therefore people will next time be more likely to click your email links again. Building connections takes time and effort but is so worth it as it pays off for the long term as well.

E-mail marketing text divider.png

Conclusion

Are you on top of your numbers? Are you trying to learn from the CTR on your emails and if and how many times they reach the verified status? Do you ask yourself why people would downvote your post? And try to improve the content so that this may happen less? One of the first emails I sent on ListNerds was about a topic where I already knew people would maybe think this is a scam, I had to read more about it first too, so it received 4 downvotes. I will probably refrain from topics like that unless I have an in-depth blog post linked to show people otherwise.

Either way, you can learn a lot from analyzing your stats and I really would like to motivate you to make it a habit to ask yourself how you can improve this the next time and if you see the numbers go up next time, you will feel proud you took feedback from analyzing your stats and tried to improve something that wasn't perceived as positive as you'd hoped at first.

We can all learn and grow! Let's try sending out high-quality emails and see our results go up over time. I'm up for the challenge, what about you?

CTR is one of the most important factors besides open rate. You could send a email to 50,000 people but if only 0.5% are even opening those emails what's the point. Knowing and understanding email marketing and the terms are critical to success in business. This was a great write up on CTR and how to improve it.

Exactly what I've concluded quite soon after I started Listnerds. The numbers weren't higher when my SOLO mail was sent to 22.9K people and didn't earn me higher rewards. Until there's a change in active users, I will refrain from wasting mail on SOLO mails. But I bet in a while from now, it will be worth it!

This was a great write up on CTR and how to improve it.

Thank you so much!

It's pretty amazing to see a 100% CTR and the only mail I did has a 93% CTR. Getting people to click on your link is the first part and the second part is to get them to stay. I have to say that Hive posts are great because people aren't spending money to do things such as comments or votes.

@jimmy.adames promoted your post on ListNerds.

93% is an amazing score if you ask me. That email dropped a few percent in CTR the next day though, but the first day it was sitting at 100% all day, which I loved seeing.

Getting people to click on your link is the first part and the second part is to get them to stay.

100% true, it's not as easy as 1,2,3 but trying out some stuff will give you insights as well as checking what others do to get verified.

I have to say that Hive posts are great because people aren't spending money to do things such as comments or votes.

Yes, we can all promote our last (or previous, even older) posts if we want to keep them alive in the search engines. It's not only great for fresh content. I think the high level of engagement coming from Listnerds is really showing people that didn't have many comments before, that it's possible to up the numbers. Sometimes you just first need to experience something before you get it.

Thanks for stopping by!

Within ListNerds staking power is everything. I have over 5,400 CTP Staked this gives me more than enough voting power for the current enrollment, but I continue to stake 100% of my CTP earned in listnerds and 50% of my CTP earned in Hive Engine all to Listnerds.
The thing about receiving votes on your emails is this.
Numbers are everything, I send to 5,000 people and on the verified emails it takes a minimum of 79 opens and 76 click-throughs to give me +20 upvotes, from my experience I have not had an email verify with fewer clicks.
BTW your writing style and content are excellent!! You are literally teaching me how to become more successful on Hive thank you for your work :-D

Great job on the 5400 CTP! I'm nearly at 2000 but at this point I need to double it at least. I've first staked 5000 CTP on HE, and since then moving the earnings into Listnerds as well.

Numbers are everything, I send to 5,000 people and on the verified emails it takes a minimum of 79 opens and 76 click-throughs to give me +20 upvotes, from my experience I have not had an email verify with fewer clicks.

That's interesting, as at this point I personally don't see any point in sending it out to more than 1000 people. Small example:

image.png

The SOLO mail didn't have any other benefit than receiving the payment the next morning. It was a test of course, and yes, I'm hoping that once I collected another 10000 Mail, the system has more active members, thus openings.

About the openings:
image.png

My verified emails are between 57 and 93 openings, where the 93 openings email had the most votes, which makes sense.

BTW your writing style and content are excellent!! You are literally teaching me how to become more successful on Hive thank you for your work :-D

Ah, thank you so much @mba2020 for the compliment and that I'm inspiring you to up your Hive game. Once you get in the flow, things will get easier to see and understand. I have to admit that Listnerds is making it a lot easier for people to up their engagement, which is awesome!

Thanks to all you guys on Listnerds, it took me an hour to catch up commenting lol. Back to my other work now :)

Take into account that in regular email Apple devices now mess with your open rate than Gmail etc, so the CTR of sends tends to be more accurate, though your bounces needs to be taken into account too :)

I don't have an Apple device :)
Maybe I'm wrong but the sends can be followed in Listnerds too, so not really sure what you mean with that comment.

It's possible you mean email marketing outside of the Listnerds platform, which I never used..

Does listnerds take into account bounces and undeliverable on the send count?

Great Question! There are no bounces and undeliverables because we use an in-house mailing system!

A useful tutorial on CTR.

What has caught my eye though is the professional looking layout of your posts - that text divider really improves the look. I also like how you have provided a list of related content - great idea to do a Listnerds series - and also a list of affiliate links at the bottom. Very well thought out.

Thank you for the compliments!

It took me some time to implement that to my content though, I think I started doing this at the end of 2021 in my Christmas crafts content and decided to also do this for other topics that I often write about.

And this way people can find all the other guides much easier, so for this Listnerds series it's probably used more often as well.

It's really impressive how CTR is way better on ListNerds than traditional mailers. I think it's one of the key metrics that's gonna attract a lot of marketers (who don't know Hive) in the future.
Found your post thanks to @jimmy.adames on Listnerds 😉

I saw his email, super cool he shared it! Not sure if I already said that yesterday (I read this late at night) so @jimmy.adames thanks <3

@gadrian just mentioned that 25% is considered high in the traditional mailers world, I had no idea that the difference is THAT big. But this can only mean that it will attract a lot of new people to hive indeed!

If you send out 1000 emails, and 100 people open it, but only 25 people decide to click on your link, this means your CTR is only 25% which is low. That means that 75% of the people reading your email weren't interested in clicking on the link.

And when we think that 25% CTR in the mailers world was considered a high CTR before Listnerds.

You're doing an awesome job with these ListNerds Newbie posts. The Click Through Rates in List Nerds are something that I have never seen in any other mailer. It's also the first place where it's beneficial to the members reading the emails other than just getting credits to post their ads.

I was reading what you said again, and let it sink in (again) lol.

It's also the first place where it's beneficial to the members reading the emails other than just getting credits to post their ads.

This is such a huge win if that's the case! Listnerds is changing an industry here. Thanks for sharing that, and have a lovely Saturday yourself!
