First time building a LEGO set by herself - Proud of my daughter!

Maybe you remember this Lego set I shared before?

I think our daughter got it either for Christmas or her birthday, I don't remember to be perfectly honest, but I do remember that putting the set together back then was mostly a task for one of us where she mostly supervised, lol. I honestly thought that maybe this set was a bit too complicated for her as she didn't have much Lego experience until then. Anyway, the set didn't get sold because I had a certain price in mind but nobody offered that amount and I decided the set wasn't heavy so we were going to take it as we already had to sell/donate most of her toys anyway. Honestly, I'm super glad I didn't sell it!

Of course, she got bored staying in the Airbnb's

There was a tv, yes, and yes she could listen to her mp3 player or draw or play her Gameboy, but having something to play with for hours was a bit difficult. I didn't really want to buy new things when we arrived in our first apartment because 2 out of the 3 big suitcases were severely damaged and I really wondered HOW we were going to move all that stuff to the second place without them breaking completely. Buying new toys really needed to wait until we found our own home.

For a few days, it was hard to motivate her

I tried my best to divide my time between her and work stuff as well as looking for a new home. I told her that she should try to build the lego set and her first responses were "I can't do that, I need your help, It's too hard" etc. I said why won't you start, there's a manual inside the box, if you follow these, I'm sure you can get far by yourself and when you need help, ask. Eventually, I convinced her, and guess what, this was the very first day that she had been the sweetest and easiest girl since we arrived. I mean, she was bored and she was watching tv often, she had little patience, that is until she started to build her set of Lego. We watched her closely and had to laugh a bit secretly because she was so focused and all zen. It was actually great to see!

She didn't need much help!

Although I helped her point out a few things here and there as the manual was not that clear (I remembered that from the times I helped put it together), she barely needed my help and within a few hours, we saw this set come together mostly done by herself. Honestly, I was super proud!

As you can see, she actually was proud of herself too!

She played with it until the day before our departure

So putting this set together was a smart move, it kept her busy and satisfied during the remaining days in that apartment. I knew right there that we should buy her more of these sets in the future so that she can find out that she is very independent and truly doesn't need that much help if she focuses a bit instead of saying that she can't because that's easier. I saw that she actually enjoyed putting it together as well so this set will probably be the first of many to come.

Determination

With some determination, she showed herself that she should not say "I can't" that easily but first try it. I had no idea she'd be able to put it together herself and when she showed me she could, I knew this had been a good lesson for the both of us.

This was the picture I took when I was actually going to sell the set in Budapest, it was meant to check if all items were still there. I'm happy that we decided not to sell it after all because now she can have some more fun with it.

That is awesome that she followed the instructions and assembled it by herself. My oldest grandson, age 7, loves to do legos and follows the instructions well, and only asks for help on occasion when he cannot find the right piece. It is amazing to watch their young minds at work.

Yes, so proud! I can imagine you are enjoying watching your grandson as well. I really love it when I see her all focused. I plan on buying more LEGO for her once I sort out the storage thing here.

That looks like a really cool set, how much is one like yours worth?

This one wasn't too expensive I think as we bought it during a special offer with some coupons saved. I think 30 bucks or so, but it was actually a bit more expensive, not sure how much though...

That's a very pretty set. I was always envious of children that had lego. Lovely that your daughter found her way with it.

I know the feeling, I only had DUPLO and I can still remember my mother saying for YEARS in my childhood that she didn't want to throw away the duplo as it was so expensive. But she never had the funds to give me the regular lego afterward.

I plan on buying a few more sets this year, maybe one of the special ones that will probably be worth more in years from now. But I need to sort out where to leave them first :) haha The house is still not sorted as I'm not used to the closets yet :) Let's do that first ;)

When I moved into a new house and put things away in unfamiliar cupboards, sometimes it took me ages to find them!

We have the same here! We now have the smallest kitchen ever, it is super compact. But to be honest, the most storage space ever in the kitchen. But we now have so many of these cupboards that I just get lost every day.

In the office was actually a walk-in closet, so that closet can be used for storage as well but it's mostly hanging closets and therefore not really handy for what I need it for. The same goes for our big wardrobe. I need to figure out what I find most convenient. It's just that we also have LOADS of stuff from the owner (came brand new with the Appartement) which we don't use, too small bedding, sheets, cushions, etc) But I think in a month or so, it will look much better.

Not complaining, it just takes a bit of time, that's all. :)

Lego is the best! I spend hours on Lego when I was a kid. In the beginning I was making things according to a book. (it was more basic, no fancy sets those days). And slowly my imagination took over. I played with my Lego for so many years. I still believe it's one of the best toys you can buy for your kids. They learn to build something, have some patience, hand coordination in putting together the small pieces and later on it will develop their imagination. Glad you didn't sold it!

That's the best thing to see the imagination take over! I'm also glad I didn't sell it. I will add more instead haha :)

Legos are great for building engineering skills. My oldest son still builds (e.g. the Back to the Future Delorean complete with light-up flux capacitor) and collects them and is teaching his children. Children need more time doing real things with their hands--much better for their brain development than just staring at screens or filling in workbook pages. !CTP

It's amazing isn't it :)
I love seeing how they get to work with stuff like that!

That's quite a nice LEGO set and very good work from your daughter. Proud daughter, but also proud parents.

It is a good thing that you did not sell the Lego. Lego is a kind of toy that helps a lot in the development of a child's brain.

That's pretty awesome. Lego's were my favorite thing to get when I was a kid. It is amazing how many themes they have these days!

Oh indeed, it's insane actually. But some are good investments I noticed. May want to focus on that for a bit too :)

Seems like the fewer toys have, the more they enjoy the ones they have.

When I moved back "home" I moved into my apartment with three of my kids, and an air mattress.

My kids were playing with rocks.... hahahaha and they had such a fun time with it.

Glad her lego skills are moving on up, we have some BIG lego structures that we bring out around Christmastime.

You are right! Sometimes my daughter just plays with a box that came with a package. The imagination they get from such simple things, it's a true inspiration!

But what a beautiful game of delegates and how it has so many varied pieces so entertaining. Undoubtedly, a good instrument to develop the creativity and concentration of your little one at home and of everyone who participates in the game.

Greetings and blessings

Lego is awesome for the little ones! We have so much lego now that we have to limit it a bit until we get a real house lol. We find lego in our beds, the kitchen, bathroom and everywhere else in the house at this point! Haha. She looks like she’s having fun and damn she’s getting big! I remember the pipe cleaners on her fingers that looked a lot smaller than I’m sure they do now!

Yes it is, we plan on giving her another set soon, but she will have to behave a bit better first because the past weeks, she had a big mouth every day. Of course, she's bored and things have changed so we try to be not to harsh on her and bought her some toys anyway because of course we left without most of her toys. But it made me think about WHAT to buy well before deciding to give her anything, guess every big mouth also comes with some advantages of me realizing not to spoil her even though I feel a bit sad for her boredness.

I hope it won't come to the point where I find lego everywhere lol, in Budapest, she had way too much stuff, including a lot of not long lasting plastic junk, trying to avoid that from the start now by mostly buying things lasting longer.

And yes, that's been a while and she defo grew a lot :) Not sure what age but in my head it must have been 1-1.5 years ago at least that post. Maybe my sense of timing is a bit off though because with the emigration prep, so much has been done in a short amount of time.

Thanks for stopping by.. Have a good weekend!
