2 years as a Silver Bloggers mod ~ 44 HSBI thank you contest

Hello Hello Silverites and all Hivians.

2 years .... Two fluffing years!

It has been two years since I started being a moderator for the wonderful Silver Bloggers Community.

It has also been three years of said community, keep your eyes peeled about that in the future...

But in the meantime let me ramble a wee bit!

Not sure if will be a ramble or a rant, or maybe a ranted ramble or even a rambled rant.

Not sure yet ....

I remember when I first joined Hive, pretty much due to the persistence of Super Eli the one and only @coquicoin who also sort of helped kick my arse into helping here in Silver Bloggers. Well when she and others had pretty much migrated here from read.cash I did do some digging on Hive.

Why on earth was Hive called Hive?

That really was the most disastrous marketing exercise. I googled Hive, and here in the UK there are loads and loads of things about Hive, companies called Hive, groups called Hive, learning academies, heating providers the list goes on and on and on.

Even last week Mrs T told someone at her work who is into photography that she should post her pictures on Hive like I do and not just on Facebook. Next day Mrs T came home from work ... "so and so says Hive is a scam as she never saw it on google and she said are you gay!"

Therein lies half the problem of Hive!

So I went to google this morning ... this was my search ...

The first mention of Hive I came to was this ....

Nestled in 73rd place!

We have Coinmarketcap.com and our Hive listing price. That is a pretty good thing to see.

Then in 133rd spot I saw Github

but not our beloved Hive ....

Okay I stopped and can see why the work colleague of Mrs T was wary to see the least.

Hive has an image problem .... we are invisible!

I guess it is time for dApps or communities to lead the charge .... as generic Hive marketing / SEO is not doing anything...

Ramling Rant part 1 I think ....

I am supposed to be talking about 2 years as Silver Bloggers moderator!

When I ran Talk Time with Tengo in the Ecency Discord I had the pleasure to chat / interview one of our UK Silver Bloggers who started the amazing Saturday Savers Club ... I am of course talking about @shanibeer .. During our wee chat she mentioned that she likens .... Hive to a small town.

We have different areas and different places for anything!

She is one wise lady and speak so many true words.

So last wee rant before I just focus on Silver Bloggers.

As blockchains go Hive is cool for a number of reasons, but most of the converted are already here. Our standing in the market cap ranks will go down as other newer flashier tokens are released and that is life.

My feedback from many of the newcomers to Hive is that it is a closed shop. Whilst in theory we are a decentralised censorship free blockchain, it is run/owned by a select few who set the laws. Certain countries are favoured for curation etc and users from certain countries incur the negative effects from the reputations of said countries.

It is what it is.

Finallly ....

Let's dive into why I love the Silver Bloggers community

As long you abide by our common sense then we don't give a fluff who you are or where you come from!

That is what attracted me to this crazy wee group of old folk!

There is nowt as queer as folk is an old British saying, we know that in SB. We have been around the park a few times.

We forgive and we let peeople live their lives in harmony without judging ... well that is the theory..

But we do judge!!!

Oh yes we fluffing do!

I am teasing, we run the #bom competition so of course we judge that, afterall someone has to pick a winner!

We might be a bunch of old boring farts .... at least that is what @deraaa calls me ... old man ... but we try to keep up with the times and my mad bro @mondoshawan keeps us upto date with discord bots doing this that and the fluffing other...

Do you know you can delegate HP to @hive-106316 and receive Hive!

No? Well you do now ... so sure we on't say no to a wee delegation ... thank you very much!

We love to collaborate

We keep up with the times.

We ran a collaboration month with the wonderful @dreemport led by the Pirate Queen @dreemsteem herself

That was a great flow of information and exchange of ideas with the kids of today!

A repeat on the cards for 2024 @dreemsteem / @lizelle ?

Ladies are very much a big part of Silver Bloggers with @lizelle creating this wonderful community and aided and abetted by a fellow South African @fionasfavourites ...

Those two amazing ladies have had such tumultuous life changing experiences that it's a credit to them both for still being on Hive, helping, writing and in Discord too!

The other incredible lady member of the Silver Bloggers moderation team is none other than my partner in crime @coquicoin who herself had an incredible escape!

As for collaborations, we try to help out InLeo and participate in the Author of The Week initiative. A big thank you to @coquicoin for participating in the weekly threading engagement initiative with our InLeo @silverlions.leo account!

InLeo are trying we know that. But if there is anything that we can do to help our members then that is what we at Silver Bloggers shall do!

Upcoming Plans....

I am not going to say anything ....

but a wee birdie told me that Silver Bloggers might have a thing or two in the pipeline ....

InLeo Premium is it worth it?

Whilst we wrap up this post and we are on the subject of collaboration and InLeo. They have a 10HBD a month scheme. I will have now posted 11 blogs written and published via the InLeo UI and have received a vote from @leo.voter three times. I have yet to run numbers and see the pros and cons of doing it financially as some of you have been asking. My month end in 3 days so I will let you know then...

My 22 x 2 HSBI thank you

So as a wee thank you I shall give 2 HSBI to 22 Hivians who leave a comment (not just nice or pish like that!) and will use a random wheel jobbie to pick the winners. There is an awesome Scottish word for you with quite a few meanings!

So comments after this payout will not count for the giveaway.... Next Monday a post will be released with a list of winners (up to 22)....

Engagement tanked

My engagement both incoming and outgoing has tanked... So I am hoping that this lift things up a wee bit. I have quiet again on Hive as I have been researching the web this weekend as in June Mrs T and I celebrate our Silver wedding anniversary ... quite appropriate for a Silver Blogger! We are going away later in the year, but yesterday I booked her a mini cruise... 2 nights ... who knew you could even do that from the UK!

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your week!

Hey partner, congrats on your 2 years as a moderator for the wonderful Silver Bloggers Community. That's quite an achievement, especially considering you had to put up with all the old farts for that long (you are free to blame deraaa for the last part) 😂

I hear you on the Hive marketing and SEO struggles but at least we're not so invisible if you were able to find a few data. I know, I know, we need to do more than our "Coinmarketcap.com and our Hive listing price", we are getting there.

I love the small-town analogy too. The close-knit vibe of our little corner of Hive is relatable.

Forgive deraaa and me for calling you an old boring fart ...hehehe. As you said, you may be a bunch of old boring farts, but at least you all are a welcoming bunch of old boring farts 🤗

And kudos to you for keeping up with the times and embracing all the fancy Discord bots and whatnot. I'm still trying to figure out how to use Discord more than I do presently, so you're way ahead of me there 😉

Speaking of keeping up with the times, I'm excited to hear about these "upcoming plans" you mentioned.

As for the InLeo Premium thing, I say anyone should go for it. What's the worst that could happen? You lose 10 HBD and end up with a bunch of cool new friends and curation? Sounds like a win-win to me 😎

Anyway, congrats again on your moderator milestone, and thanks for keeping us entertained and engaged. Here's to many more years of ranted rambles and rambled rants 🍻

Hey partner, it is also quite an achievement that the welcoming old farts have put up with this mad old fart for so long!
The Hive marketing, yeah it might just be time to just mention ecency peakd inleo etc instead or splinterlands etc. Being invisible is not so good, have to add to hive in the search defeats the purpose in my opinion.
Ah yes you and Deraa are to be blamed for alot!
The discord thing yes there is a gazillion things that you can do on there it seems.
Even earn crypto playing poker there!
The InLeo premium thing well we shall see, it is not just the 10 HBD at stake though...
Have a wonderful week partner!

The Hive Name

I 100% agree with your rant about the Hive name. I wasn't around at the time it changed name. But I imagine it was a bit hectic with little thought given to long-term vision for the Steem replacement. Having said that, it's second nature for me to search for any potential business or domain name to see what exists.

Spreading The Word

I soon started referring to "Hive Blockchain" in conversation. Which puts people off straight away because it just sounds complicated, compared to other social platforms.

she should post her pictures on Hive like I do and not just on Facebook

I think a better way is to suggest posting on Ecency/PeakD or whatever your favourite front end is. And that's what I intend to do in future.

Another thought is that, if we continue to promote Hive, then I believe all Community names should include Hive in the title.

But my most likely belief is that in a couple of years, most people will just refer to Inleo.

Yeah I guess the name was chosen in haste, but I am with you in so far as searching domain names when we are doing something.

As soon as I mention blockchain people look at me as if I have two heads!

The way as you say is to mention the dApp or front end. We shall see how it all pans out.

It would be good to have our content more visible on searches or even our own blog pages, but I'm not sure how technically feasible that is. Otherwise some great points Ed. Good to see the silver bloggers collaborations continuing.

Is it possible to create let’s say, our own front-end like a headless Hive in web development terms?

I understand you could use a tool like superhive to create a wordpress type blog or your own full front end using Ecency for example as it is fully open source.

I am pretty sure that slothbuzz for example used the ecency open source to create their front end @nicklewis

Found it and the codebase is ecency-vision. I can fork it and create a bespoke front-end with it for nicklewis.blog potentially!

I think someone did a post about how the different front ends got picked up in searches. But no matter the front end we use we still need to write in an SEO friendly way. I know I never have here. That was probably because what did it matter when on Hive only the first 7 days count.

Very true. I do think there needs to be a way to categorise and customise your homepage for longform content and videos etc. This could also help to drive traffic. But again, not sure how feasible that is to do.

Wonderful to celebrate two years moderating and amazing that Silver Bloggers has been here for three. I appreciate everything that moderators and other community leaders do, it's a time consuming business. Here's to another successful two years 😍.

I think we will see more activity on Hive as the price starts to rise. I guess the thing is making each community/function/front end distinctive and welcoming, rather than relying on the Hive infrastructure. That might never be the thing and may always be hidden behind and underneath the communities, shops and businesses that are built on Hive.

Saturday Savers Club has taken four years to grow from four or five people to a fifty-nine strong community of which about at third are active at any one time. I think we are on the right track, it's just understanding the timescale and having something that draws people in.

Thanks Shani, yes all the mods, curators and community builders on Hive deserve huge plaudits, there is alot that goes on in Hive behind the scenes that often Hivers don't appreciate.
Here is to the next two years or in the case of SSC the next four!
Talking of towns I hope the news I heard today that this could be the wettest summer for 100 years is not the case down in your towns!

Sometimes I cross post on PublishOx blog and strangely when I enter the keywords of my post on a web search engine I may see the PublishOx post and not the Hive one.
Indeed there is a lack of visibility for Hive blogs, our developers should work on that.

Silver Anniversary escape sounds a great idea, Silver Bloggers really have kept themselves busy, something to be proud of!

Tide and time, nobody I recall discussed renaming when it arrived, it had to be done at speed! Agree when already in a system it's a steep hill to conquer with SEO in marketplace, alas no going back now we should work with what we have.

Happy new week!

Well I was reading the news today, last summer was so fluffing wet and they are now predicting this one will be the wettest for 100 years! An escape will be needed!
Speed does cause problems later on sometimes. It is what it is, time for the dApps to lead the way no I think.
Have a great week Joan.

so and so says Hive is a scam as she never saw it on google and she said are you gay! Whooh! A little rude here.

Anyway, I understand her standpoints yet it's a lie. Hive really needs to walk on this. I wouldn't personally have known hive if I was not introduced. Search engine placement for hive community post is bad.
Congrats on your anniversary

Whooh! A little rude here.

hehe not really, was tongue in cheek as what came up for Hive was The Hive which here in our town is a centre for the LGBTQ community.
Hive is what it is, I think you need to promote frontends instead.

Congrats on your 2nd year as Silver Bloggers mod!

Agreed on the Hive branding. After 4 years (is it four years?!) a lot should have been done about it already. Could be better. But hey, guess what, hive.io came 5th on my google search. 🤭

And happy silver anniversary to you and your wifey. Enjoy the mini cruise.

hehe I feel you. I must ask you in discord about it. They do well with some new users, if you are onboarded through hiveph for example you will start out with some great upvotes but then you aren't new anymore and reality sets in lol.
It is good to be funny I think. I remember when I used to lecture to Masters students, if you make things fun they stay interested!

Hola hola, Super Ed!!!

That's pretty cool that you and Mr. T are going on a mini-cruise and a coincidence that my anniversary is also in June, hehe. Only that I'm two years away from my silver wedding anniversary;)

As for Hive, you are right, the biggest stumbling block is that we are invisible and if I am honest I have been thinking lately that some of the big accounts don't care about that and even more they are fine with it. Maybe to don't see their power and influence diluted because if there are more users and there was really decentralization they would not be able to impose their rules. But anyway, it is what it is, and although the enthusiasm of the early days has diminished I think that Hive is still a great way to get cryptocurrencies in exchange for investing time.

Silver Bloggers is the best community, no doubt about it. And well it's time to give you a big KUTA to see if we put some spark in SB these days, what do you say?

Super Eli, finally I get round to finishing up my commments on this post and of curse I leave the best till last!

if I am honest I have been thinking lately that some of the big accounts don't care about that and even more they are fine with it. Maybe to don't see their power and influence diluted because if there are more users and there was really decentralization they would not be able to impose their rules

100% agree with you on this. So fluff it as far as I am concerned, Hive I make from blogging, curating, performing any activities on the Hive blockchain are mine to do with as I see fit. Big fish in a little bowl is what they are.

Anyway enough of them.Yes Hive is what it is and we can't change that. We can of course get Silver Bloggers moving again, and I think we shall. Lizzie has made a great start with surprise giveaway .... so be prepared to be mentioned in a post from me tonight ....

Mrs T says how cool is it you have your anniversary in June too.... Ours is the 12th

Gracis Super Eli 💙💙💙 for being simply amazing ...

Two years already Ed, a big bow and a thank you from the bottom of my heart for some of the fabulous initiatives you've set up for Silver Bloggers!

The younger ones think we're past our sell-by-date, but hey, many of us started with basic computer technology back in the 70s, and kept up with the ever-changing IT evolution of today.

As I mentioned to @mondoshwan, we've reached the STage where we realize we don't have to fit the mold society expects of us.
Age is just a number!

We love change, and welcome new ideas as well as new faces in this special part of a town called Hive. Thank you @shanibeer, I love how you compare Hive to a small town, brilliant!

A @dreemsteem collab would be fabulous; the folk there were so welcoming, and I often think about how we should have had more of those, but then 2023 became the worst year of both Fiona's and my lives.

Thank you to you Ed, @mondoshawan, and @coquicoin, you all make a formidable team! Eli, you certainly picked the best when you encouraged Ed to join Hive!

Almost forgot, happy silver anniversary to you and Mrs. T, enjoy the cruise! Certainly going to be fun, so let your hair down and don't act your age ;)

Well I stopped giving a fluff of what others thought a long time ago, probably my stubbornness has a part to do with that.

“You are gay Eddie! So gay!”

I can actually hear Mrs. T saying it… “are you are gay”

Ahhhhhhh 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I can’t concentrate on any other thing than that statement. Oh fluff. Hive needs to rework its image. Because blast! Are we gay?! 😂😂😂😂

Hive is still in hiding and I hope more work is done to make it more public and rank more on Google search. It is why they are calling Hive as being a scam. Well, won't blame them because they believe something isn't scam when it is being searched and verified on Google search.

Congratulations on your 2 yrs in Silver bloggers community. Keep rocking.

Thanks Princess ah well you have been here longer than me so we know Hive is no scam, but for someone who just knows the word and nothing about it, not finding anything on Google would send me alarm bells too!
Ah the Premium review ... well the jury is still out, it certainly has some drawbacks but do the positives outweigh them? I am not sure yet, I may do one more trial to see.

Yea, sure. I would have thought the same about Hive being a scam too if I hadn't known about it. We just need to try it out first for a review, either positive or negative.
For the premium, yea, the positives outweighs them because it is better. Since I have been a premium subscriber last year November, I have enjoyed the service, made more than what I used to subscribe with plus some whooping profits alongside. So, it is okay on my end.

Hi Tengolotodo!

I had fun reading your anecdotes of what you got about Hive on the net, I knew about this platform from a friend because she sent me her posts, and once she showed me her Wallet I could believe the honesty so I was encouraged, then entering and seeing quality posts makes me see the good of it all even though the rewards sometimes are not the best.

I particularly think that most of the users of this blockchain reflect us more as employees than as owners of a company, let me explain better; we expect to be voted only to get paid later and what do we do for hive? do we invest? do we delegate? do we do good marketing in the other networks of Web 2 for example?

Bored Cabin Fever GIF

Nba Playoffs Win GIF by NBAHappy I Love You GIF by Warner Bros. Deutschland

When I make a post I promote it on X (Twitter), Instagram, and even TikTok and I've seen hivers on those last two networks but posting photos or personal stuff and none of their content on Web 3.

As long as we continue with that mentality and no one “designs” something cool, we will continue to be a small company in a small town in a far, far away country and the big investors will not come.

Enjoy your trip on the cruise very much, they are unique experiences! Congratulations and may prosperity follow in your paths!

Love the John Travolta gif as he is one of my favourite actors!

Sharing Hive content on web2 is a great thing to do and something I try to do especially on twitter or X... I liked all your analogies. As long as we have fun on Hive then that is the way it should be. We all different ideas how to market or even if we market Hive. But sharing our content is the best way like you say.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Congratulations on your achievement of being a silver bloggers mod for 2 years now. I do wish you the strength for carry on for more years.

The fact that hive isn't the first thing that pops up in a Google search is a cause for concern.

Sometimes life gets crazy & we rather just do the quick like curating as opposed to actually taking the time to blog. I know it gets like that for me at least once a week.

No, I didn't know about the delegation and now that I do, I will definitely be delegating. I like to support the communities that interest me & getting a little hive is always sweet.
