Lesson #1: "Goating" is not a word.

Many people will use a phrase such as "[someone] goated me into doing X." This is actually incorrect, because "goating" isn't a real word! This is a common misconception. Goating is actually a mispronunciation of the word "goading", which means poking an animal with a sharp stick. This word has slowly evolved into a general verb; meant to express the act of annoyance [usually linked to peer pressure].

INCORRECT

Sally goated me into going to the grocery store for her.

CORRECT

Sally goaded me into going to the grocery store for her.
