Another schoolyear had gone by and my eldest has now completed third grade. He was very excited as he can finally take a break from school. But really, I'm the one who looked forward to this moment the most. Since I'm a househusband who does freelance gigs on the side, I am tasked with the daily routine of preparing my son and accompanying him to school. It's just a short ride from home. So vacation time also means a few more hours of sleep for me.

But before the school year ended, we were greeted with the news that our son was going to receive a bronze medal. And this time, I get to be on stage to award it to him. In the past, it's usually my wife who does this, but she's unable to attend this time due to work.

I thought nothing of it at first during the program. But when we were already marching on the stage and I was shaking the hands of the presenters, I swelled up with emotions. Of course I didn't cry, but I remembered all my daily duties, cooking breakfasts, packing lunchboxes, sorting his books, etc. And I thought to myself, it was worth it.

And it doesn't really matter to me whether he gets an award or not, as long as he can advance to the next year level. After all, I'm just an average student myself. But this is a blessing from God that we were wholeheartedly grateful for. And I pray that I will be given enough strength to guide my two sons throughout their academic journeys.
