Introduction

@ablaze has been doing 3 tune Tuesday for quite a while and we love the idea of it and some of the posts @stickupmusic has been doing it but I though I would join in too. it is a great way to listen to new music which is always something we want to do!

Our picks

This week we are all Pink Floyd, we were hanging about at my folks house going through some vinyl and listening to music and came across some Pink Floyd. Now I used to love them alot but have not listened to them for some time so it was nice to be remembered not only how good they were but how pioneering and different they were at the time. even now I am not sure I have heard anyting that comes close to their varied and diverse sound. I mean can you direct me to some music that sounds like early Pink Floyd?

So to honour such pioneering legends of their time we going in with 3 full albums not songs and it is nothing less than they deserve. So it might be a long listen this week, but every minute will be worth it!

Album 1

Not sure it comes better than this. probably the most recognisable Floyd album. With a great fluid running order and some classics like Money (trickily goes from 5/4 to 4/4 timing) and Time on this flawless body of work is an interesting as it is compelling. If you don't know Pink Floyd well then this is a great starting point.

Album 2

Now as a whole concept album and film, to me, this is a piece of genius. The film is as scary as it is brilliantly weird. This is something that is greater than the sum of its parts, like err a wall. It has some great tracks on for sure, "Another brick ine wall" is great all on one chord basically to "comfortably numb" and its great vocals and guitars to "mother" which is simple but meaningful. This is a double album that has everything and as a creative piece of work alongside the film and animation is nothing short of genius.

Album 3

Probably another top and classic album from Floyd that is instantly recognisable. "Wish you were here" again is a classic "Wish you were here" the song much played by buskers all over the world and then you go on to Shine On you Crazy Diamond which is such a big song and is in two parts and takes about 25 minutes....again a bold and decisive decision to make. This has to me, their signature sound and was made when they were at their absolute best.

We love all types of music and hope that you like our choices!

Big up all the music in the world and the joy we get making and listening to it!

I remember I had the first poster up on my wall when I was a teenager, and I now I suddenly remember I got it from Athena. Those were the days

Some of my favourite albums there. I see @slobberchops picked some Floyd too this week.

The verse of Money is in 7/4, but they make it swing. I've just not got into anything other than 3/4 and 4/4 for writing songs.
