A photowalk in Steyr

Today I visited another beautiful place in upper Austria. The city of Steyr which dates back its origins to the Celts who had their settlements around the area in 600 B.C.
I will not drop the history bomb on you because it would be too much and it would also not fit into one post. (I pinned this on a map for you)

You definitely can feel the medieval vibes all over the place and there are many narrow little streets to be explored. If you visit Austria you have to come here for at least one day to have a little stroll around the town.

These are the old pillars of the bridge that went over the river Enns. They have been recovered in the year 1978 when they rebuilt the bridge that had previously been renewed in 1891. Before that the only material used for it was wood.

The river coming from the left is the Steyr which has much clearer and blueish water.
From the right comes the Enns with a more brownish tone. Both rivers are pretty clean and it is just the difference in sediments in the water that makes the colors differ.

This man is a so called Geselle who is a on his so called Walz. This is a traditional journey a fresh craftsman goes on after finishing his learning years and is the first step to get their masters exam. This tradition goes back into medieval ages. The traditional "Kluft" he is wearing designates that he has learned something with crafting metals.
This would make a lot of sense as in Steyr there are several companies specializing in the crafting of metals.

I really like these nice entrance portals.

IMG_9665.jpeg
Some of the passages are so low and narrow that you can reach the ceiling.

If you visit Steyr check out the beautiful parks as well!

The gardens around Lamberg Castle are beautiful. This is also the castle where I got married two years ago.

IMG_9647.jpeg
The face in this passage is one of the city's secrets as not many tourists see it although it is right in the middle of the town center.
There are a few legends around who this face belongs to. The most told legend is about a Count who was in constant quarrel with the city judge and the bishop. Legend says that this was made to mock the count.

The oil hill street is a narrow street connecting the upper part with the city center.

IMG_9648.jpeg
At the bottom of the oil hill street you will find a house that once has been shot with a canon and the canon ball is still embedded in its wall.

One of the famous landmarks of Steyr is the so called Bummerlhouse
It was the Guesthouse to the golden lion and it was built about 1497. It is one of the best preserved late gothic secular construction in Austria.

I hope you enjoyed this photowalk through the old town of Steyr and I also hope you feel inspired to visit sometime.
Thanks for your time and attention.
