A full month of streaming on Twitch – web2 to onboard to web3

avatar

If you are thinking of creating your own channel on Twitch and stream on a regular basis this post is just for you. I show you an in-depth look at my streaming stats and I will share some more info about my #watchandearn program.

First of all I would like to say thanks to all of you who have been supporting my stream in any way. Thanks for the shoutouts on ecency waves and inleo! Thank you for participating in the threadcasts accompanying my streams! Every single viewer of my channel is highly appreciated and I am happy that more and more people are joining my streams.

In the past 30 days, I have streamed 40 hours and 35 minutes. That is a full workweek if we take the standard 40-hour model. I gained 14 new followers and had a share of ad revenue of 5,79$
My average viewer count is 62 viewers. I started the month with 0 subscribers and have not gained any. (You can subscribe to my channel for free using your prime gaming!)

One of the ways to make serious amounts of money with Twitch is to have a bunch of subscribers who appreciate your streams and keep their subscriptions on. This is something I would love to see, but I think it will come with time.

My income from twitch came from my revenue share for ads before and during the stream. In 40 Hours of streaming, there was 2h 14 minutes of ads played during my streams. Not that great of a number right? Even if I would tenfold my viewer count this would only be about 50$ in a 30 day period.

My main goal with streaming though is not to make big bucks. Of course, that would be a nice side effect, but the main motivation for me is to onboard new users to HIVE. I want to show everyone on Twitch that there is a thing called WEB3 where you can be free and be your own bank. This is where my watch and earn program kicks in.

What the fuck is #watchandearn?

Good question, thank you! Watchandearn is my way of rewarding viewers of my Twitch stream. This is where the onboarding to HIVE comes into play as well.

Viewers have 3 options to get rewarded for their time viewing my streams. The first one is a very direct one and happens on the fly, the second one requires a bit of patience but is equally rewarding. The third one is a claim of various Hive Engine tokens using your channel points that you earn for watching my stream.

option 1

Participating in the respective #threadcast on inleo.io
Every time I go live I start a threadcast on inleo.io and share the link in my stream chat. Viewers are encouraged to leave a comment there and each comment gets them a tiny bit of $LEO and HP and $HBD
You can check the latest threadcast here:
https://inleo.io/threads/view/solymi/re-leothreads-n2yqmhou

I usually give out 5-10% votes to anyone participating. If someone posts a clip of my stream (the clip is made with a feature on twitch) and shares the link to it I reward that with a bigger vote of 20-25%

This way my voting power does not get drained and not only my viewers are benefitting but also I am, since I get curation rewards too!

If you would like to participate next time make sure to follow me so you see the threadcast in your for you feed!

option 2

Option 2 is closely tied to option one since it benefits those who participated in the threadcast for the respective show. Each week my alt account @splinternews publishes a so called "Watch and earn report" where each participant of the threadcasts is set as a 5% beneficiary. (Numbers can and probably will change as I will have more viewers)

Latest watchandearn report by splinternews

Not only do these reports give rewards to my viewers but also to the creator of the music I am using during my stream. (20-25%)

But that is still not all! 50-60% of the rewards the reports make are set for @snvault which is the treasury account of #watchandearn

I have stated this a few times and will do it again:
SNVAULT is a treasury account and I will never use those funds for my own purposes. The account holds various gaming tokens but also some $HBD and $LEO and a few gaming community tokens like $ONEUP or $THG.
The tokens were donated or sponsored by many different projects. I would love other streamers to join in and I am happy to share the funds that are held by SNVAULT.
As soon as multisig becomes something that is actually usable by a dumbass like me I will share ownership of that account with trusted members of the community.
Snvaults treasury can only be accessed if you use option 3.

option 3

Claiming tokens by spending your channel points. In the chat window, you will find a small icon where you can access the channel point menu.

From as little as 420 channel points you can claim various gaming tokens! (For following the channel you will receive 300 points so it is not that long of a stretch ;) )

And this is what the major onboarder for HIVE is on my channel. A new web 2 user sees that they can claim crypto and in order for them to receive it they will need a HIVE account that they have to declare when claiming.

You can also see that as a subscriber you can triple your claims, so maybe this is the time to sub? (just joking)

The panel section

For people being able to create an account on HIVE while watching you also have to give them the option to click somewhere and this is where the panel function of Twitch is a great help.
When viewers are watching your stream they will see these panels right underneath the video.

This is the place to hide all your affiliate links and invites and get some extra followers on other platforms! Make it look good and exciting and you might see a few extra clicks.

There is no boundaries to what you can do with these panels so go ahead and try it!

Donations

Since we are on web3 and on HIVE the very best platform for web3 by far, we also have a way to be rewarded through the existing infrastructure!
Did you know there is a tool to display donations received on any HIVE account?
Try it on https://stream.hivelive.me/ which is a super powerful tool by @bambukah
You can copy the browser source link and add that to your OBS stream with 2 clicks. There is various aspects you can tweak around such as minimum donations and even can have your own animation with it.

Even if you are not a streamer you can make use of this tool when placing a donation button in your posts or threads just like the one below. Just click on the gif and it will take you straight to the donation page. Thanks!

Unfortunately so far nobody clicked on the donate button during my streams but I tested it and the thing works just great!

Agin this is a possible onboarding tool since you also need a HIVE account to be able to donate. Bambukah's site provides a link so people who do not have one can create their account there.

Watch and earn!

I am streaming every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:00 am CET if you need to convert this to your local time check here: https://www.timebie.com/std/centraleuropean.php?q=9

Thanks for sharing your stats and progress this last month. It has been good to see you streaming more often and hopefully you will help bag some new users to Hive. Hive is such a great platform, many people are missing out I think.

Thanks for sharing your stats and ideas on how to monetize a live stream on Twitch! I have finally come out from my turtle shell and doing a weekly live show in Ecency about HIVE, so we will see what will happen in the future... Maybe I will go in your steps and go into the "outside world"... 😃

Good luck in your streaming journey!! All the best!

It is quite easy to get to affiliate status on Twitch, especilly if you have a community built on Hive. You only need 50 followers to monetize your stream.

You are really doing great
I believe over the 1 month, it must have really been tedious but the consistency to keep going is worth commending

Yes fortunately I am mostly able to stick to my streaming schedule.
Consistency is something worth longing for.
Thank you for your comment.
