Yet another travel experience: [ The road doesn't get better for me]

avatar

I think I made a couple of threads about this whole journey I'm writing about, but I've put off writing this long form post for far too long.
This particular trip came with so many experiences and it putting it together in one post would make it terribly long.

I had spent the entire vacation on campus because i had quite a number of things to attend to. So it finally happened that we the executives had to attend a senate meeting. I did make a post once about the first senate meeting sometime last year. Well this is the second one. Just as it happened last year, we delayed in getting a ticket to travel on the day we were supposed to leave. So I was actually thinking we wouldn't be able to leave on that day. But I later got a call and was told to quickly come to the station cause we had secured tickets. I quickly wrapped up whatever I was doing only to get to the station and realize I was the only one. This was around 5 pm on Thursday.

So I sat down and waited. I noticed that the bus I was thinking would be joining was as a different place from where my colleagues ask me to wait but I just had to wait and see.

They finally came around and they didn't even have the tickets. Fortunately, we got some. But it was for a different bus, a much cheaper one. While sitting and waiting, I saw them putting a FULLY GROWN COW under the bus where the luggage usually is. There was saw dust too. No one had to tell me this was going to be a terrible experience.

We were asked to get into the bus and when I settled into my seat, the man I was sitting with couldn't stop talking. He was constantly trying to engage me in a conversation and I wasn't in any way ready for that. I eventually put on my Airpods and stared out the window waiting to begin this journey.

When the bus finally moved, it was 7 pm already and guess what, it moved about 10 seconds and stopped. We were still right there in the station and they had to work on the bus before we moved. After a little while, the bus was started again and we just made a curve outside the station and it was off again. Hm.

People started complaining that they should change the bus before it leaves us stranded in the middle of nowhere.
But when they finally got it started again, it didn’t break down this time.

I focused on my toxic playlist for a while (if you listen to Giveon, you know what I mean).

I really can't remember when last I listened to music. I actually offloaded the app so I had to quickly download it again. And that's how I was messing up the lyrics when I tried to sing along.

Remember when I mentioned the cow in the luggage area? Well, when the AC was turned on, it made the bus smelled just like the shelter where these animals live. I could swear there was a sheep and goat alongside the cow in the bus, cause I could smell the feces of all 3 animals now mixed together with the AC. For someone that sometimes gets motion sickness, this wasn't looking good.

I eventually dozed off and so did my seat partner. The bus came to a stop and people got down to freshen up. I decided to get down too only to realize the walkway was packed with luggage as well. As I struggled to find my way down, I almost stepped on someone sleeping on the floor cause I thought he was part of the luggage and I also stepped on a black polythene bag and my leg felt wet. That was when I realized what it was. Someone had vomited inside the rubble and left it there. (if I'm making you feel disgusted, I'm sorry 😂)

I had to forcefully continue sleeping to avoid having to deal with the strong smell in the bus.

To cut it short, we finally made it to Kumasi around 7 am on Friday. The bus dropped us in the middle of a market claiming that's the last stop.
I had to wait for a while while my colleagues went into the market to find a few items. I was standing for almost an hour before they returned.

We got a vehicle to convey us to the next station for us to continue our journey.
We got there and the bus was half full so we waited a while and set off.

It was about a 4 and half hour journey. I actually wanted to take some pictures of some mountainous areas but it skipped me. The driver dropped us by the roadside because the university he were going to was in the opposite direction to where he was going but it was just 4 minutes away.

So we got down and got a taxi to take us to the hotel we would be spending the night.
We got settled in, got some food and spent the rest of the evening talking.

That was a terrible experience you had in the vehicle.
For someone like me, bad smells fight my system so hard 😥

🤔🤔🤔.
My body system easily frown at such, no matter how often I had experienced that.

That was a tough trip...I've never been on a bus with cows. I am glad you arrived safely, but will you have to take the same as bus on the way back?

Well with the animal smell coming from the boot I think it has to do with the bus. I've taken STC from tamale to Accra with goats in the boots and we didn't smell a thing the whole journey.

You've never had a good journey hehe😂

Mehn, audiomack is the last place I'll listen to music. I hate that app with all my life. But I recently downloaded it on my android but then I think I'll delete it again.

A long trip, at least it had stops along the way, I hope everything went as expected.
