10 Reasons Friendships Should Be Celebrated

In my wanderings around the online netherworlds the last while I’ve been picking up some important intel on why friendships should be celebrated on Valentine’s. Maybe even in place of romantic love.

1. Duct Tape — Duct tape can fix anything. Good friends hold us together in the tough times. For the friend who sometimes needs to STFU — duct tape can help.

2. No Instruction Manual Needed — Friends come in all sizes, shapes and types. Instruction manuals would be confining and wouldn’t let you find the crazy friends who add flavour to your life.

3. Like Potato Chips — Bet you can’t just have one! Some will be different flavours you enjoy more than others. Others, well, let’s say those were flavours better not produced.

4. Are Like Cozy Blanket — No matter what life throws our way, good friends are like a cozy blanket on a cold day. They keep us warm and snug. Lukewarm friends will throw you a threadbare blanket before tossing on ice water.

5. Just Like A Good Pair of Shoes — A good friendship is often a bit worn around the edges but we’re comfortable with them. They are always there when we need them. Just don’t wear them too long or they start to fall apart.

6. Like a Glass of Wine — Fine wine will settle and feels good and spreads the warmth like good friends. Those tasting like vinegar are wines and friends to be avoided.

7. Like Free Gym Memberships — Great friends provide a workout for mind, body and soul. Others run you ragged. Avoid the ragged.

8. Like a Therapist — Good friends are present to lend an ear and a shoulder to cry on, free of charge. Others, well, ask for a good reference and head to a therapist.

9. Like a Rollercoaster — Good friendships can be full of ups and downs but they’re always an exciting ride. Others, well, the rollercoaster runs through the house of horrors.

10. Come With a Lifetime Supply of Laughter — Great friendships collect all the missteps, foibles and banana peels slips to fuel years of laughing with each other.

There we go. Good friends can make a difference in our lives. The pleasure, good memories and great experiences can last a lifetime. Having a friend (or a few) you can trust adds a depth to your life that can’t be measured. The friends in our lives are the true diamonds bringing us richness dollars will never match. Raise a glass or send a message celebrating how you feel. Not just on Valentine’s, but every day.
