You're right! The usage of scientific names made it more exotic. :)
I both love jackfruit and passion fruit, considered to be among my favorite fruits! I lived in Northern Luzon wherein those fruits are accessible. My Manila friends got weirded out with the passion fruit because they can't fathom swallowing seeds.
Marang I think is more common in the South of the Philippines (i.e. Mindanao), similar to Durian.
